Actually, Hal, my memory is excellent for that sort of thing. When I'm shopping I tend to forget if I've got a version of a film with DTS or 2 Disc...that sort of thing.

To be honest my real reason for going mobile is because of a recent change in storage.

I recently went 'boxless' with my dvd collection to save on space - everything is now in 5 metal DJ cases. Needless-to-say I use Profiler Location/Slot to keep track of which disc is in which box.
But, my computer isn't always on...so I designed a report that would print 4 profiles per A4 sheet with the basic details on and the location.
It's costing a fortune in ink and paper to keep printing out a report everytime I buy new stuff; so I finally decided that a PDA and Profiler Mobile would solve the problem by letting me have the information on a smaller device.

I also want to store a list of my music and books on it too for shopping (those I really can't remember!)

Phew...all that from 'Good Luck'....sorry, Hal!

I keep my "printed" inventory in order of purchase date with an alphabetic index (list only) which tells me physical location. The purchase date gets me close to where it is in my "book".

That way I only have to print (or re-print the last page and stick it in the book rather than reprinting the whole thing for every update.

I didn't explain very well...I too only print a new report for the 'new' stuff I buy...with each 4 a new sheet is printed.  But it's still not as cost-effective as having a PDA - at least that's my reasoning for buying one!

Your reasoning for buying a new PDA is far and away more substantial than mine was when I got my first one.

I just wanted one!

I gave several reasons for getting my PDA phone and the eventual upgrades to faster PDA phones - my short term memory condition.  I had my brains sloshed around in my head from a car accident so I became the physical embodiment of the phrase "Out of sight, out of mind".  In other words, my mental PostIt pad ran out of those little yellow stickies.  So my excuse was that I could use it to keep track of information, dates, task lists, etc.

In reality, my real reason was the same as Hals.

The only problem I found with my old PDA (which caused me to buy a new one) was that the internal memory (32mb) wasn't enough to let Profiler Mobile run well.  So, I upgraded to an iPAQ which has 64mb of internal memory - more than enough to let Mobile run well.

If it takes a MicroSD card and the device supports it, CircuitCity has 4 GB cards out for around $89.

I'm still waiting for the 32 GB MicroSD cards to be released!

Me, too, but it doesn't help when the 34mb of main memory is full of stuff you can't move to the SD card - overhead that you can't delete, either.  Of course I don't remember if I tried putting the whole Profiler Mobile (program and data) on the card.  I don't think I want to find out it would have worked, now that I've invested a couple hundred dollars of my own money to get the new iPAQ.  My employer paid for my first PDA, you see.

It would have worked. I have the program and data both on the SD card .

"Sorry"??? If someone had told him earlier (or he had been stupid enough to try himself) he would have lost the "I really need to buy this new gadget" excuse, and then we really should feel sorry for him.
Regards
Lars

Lars, you caught me.

Here I had a perfectly legitimate (or so I thought) justification to upgrade to a better PDA and now you guys tell me I wouldn't have had to do it after all.  Luckily I don't have to explain to anybody that I didn't really need a new PDA.
