However, I submitted only DiscID where there were none.  I remember doing the DiscID for, say, King of the Hill and only submitting them.  (DiscID are one of those things I like to have in my DB .. dunno why.)

I don't think adding a disc ID where there is none in the database is a problem. The rule Disc ID differs from the Disc ID in the main database would only kick in if there already was already a disc ID in the database.

Most of the time when there is no disc ID there is also other stuff missing, but I have added just missing disc IDs a couple of times.

So say i submit an update with a new/different Disc ID than the one in the profile.

The next person to enter the UPC and download that profile gets which Disc ID - the original or the replacement?

Edit:
Or are both available internally so if the disc is inserted in the computer it recognizes either one?

I can't be 100% sure... but I believe it is the most recent added as the current disc id that is downloaded.

They are both maintained in the system, though only the most recent Contributin shows. Which AGAIN is why I list the data WITH my notes, so I there is no need to ping-pong Disc Id data, I can see that I already contributed one and its still there, though not visible.

That's a good tip.  I'm surprised at how often i encounter IDs different from the existing ones.

I do the same Skip... except I also note the one I replaced as well so we have a record of not only the one I added but the one I replaced so it don't get re-uploaded again.

Another thing.. There is no way to know which disc ids ken already has in the database... there was the one that was in there when first submitted to Invelos... then it was updated  once since then. Plus this was released in December of 2003... who knows how many he already collected for this title over at Intervocative (if they were brought over I have no idea).

But without knowing what is already in the system... there is no way to know if he already has this disc ID of not. would be nice if there was a way to know all the ones in the system... I try to do my part when I do add an additional one is list the new one as well as the one I am replacing in the contribution notes.

That's a pretty good point, and one I never really considered until Pete mentioned it.  No way to know if a DiscID has been contributed in the past as we only see the last ID to be contributed.  Should we see all or would that give us a screen full of IDs for certain titles?
Gotta nip it in the bud, Andy!

Hmmm...listing DiscIDs in the notes as well.  Something I will start doing then, especially when Ken gets DiscIDs working for HD DVD & Blu-ray (MyMovies already has this feature, but you can't paste DiscIDs into Profiler.)  Good point.

Good point there as well.

Good thread.  Lots of useful pointers here.

I was thinking about this... and what I was wondering is if Ken could do something so that if we update a Disc ID to something he already has.. that it will just not show up on the contribution as changed to contribute.

So instead of comparing it to just the current one... it compares it to all that he has collected.

But of course only Ken can say if he can do that or not.

Definitely a good idea.

I can't think of a way to show all the different Disc IDs for the same disc without it being confusing.  If doable this would be an elegant solution.
