As I have explained in this post, the ratings (eg. PG, R) for each locality are mapped to an internal rating level (1 - 5).

For the display of your Online Collection, profiles with an internal rating level of 5 are considered "adult" titles, and are hidden if you choose that option.

In addition, profiles are considered "adult", if they have the "Adult" rating, or if they have the "Adult" genre. The NR rating is *not* considered as "adult".

What matters are the actual data for these fields in your uploaded profile, not the ones in the Online master database.

Since some of these mappings *might* be wrong (e.g. Italy), I post here the complete list of all mappings for everyone to re-evaluate and to point out possible errors that Ken should fix.

The mappings itself are stored in the file localities.dod, which also provides the localities itself and the Country of Origin. The file structure is undocumented, but fairly simple. I have converted the content to XML based on my analysis of the file.

Does 'Unk' stand for unknown? I'd say it's the default region code of the locality.

Australian classification mapping:

<Locality Unk='4' Code='2' Name='Australia'>
    <Rating Code='1' Name='G'/>
    <Rating Code='2' Name='PG'/>
    <Rating Code='3' Name='M'/>
    <Rating Code='4' Name='MA'/>

Adult content in Australia is rated X. The classification R has nothing to do with Adult content. We need a sixth mapping to distinguish Adult titles from non-Adult titles. Source:

...and while we're at it, M needs to be changed to M15+, MA can either stay as is or change to MA15+ (as both have been in use at some point) and R should be changed to R18+ as these are the official designations (with the bonus that it keeps our R-rating from getting muddled with the US one).

To be totally accurate, M needs to stay. The classification mapping should be:

<Locality Unk='4' Code='2' Name='Australia'>
    <Rating Code='1' Name='G'/>
    <Rating Code='2' Name='PG'/>
    <Rating Code='3' Name='M'/>
    <Rating Code='4' Name='MA15+'/>

For my locality :

<Locality Unk='1' Code='19' Name='Canada (Quebec)'>
    <Rating Code='1' Name='G'/>
    <Rating Code='2' Name='PG'/>
    <Rating Code='3' Name='14'/>
    <Rating Code='4' Name='18'/>
    <Rating Code='5' Name='R'/>

First thing first : the rating who are use in the program is not the good one. I don't buy DVD from my locality very often (I don't like bilangual cover) thats why I don't really see it at first. The system use here is a copy of the Canadian system.

Canada(Quebec) as it is really

<Locality Unk='1' Code='19' Name='Canada (Quebec)'>
    <Rating Code='1' Name='G'/>
    <Rating Code='2' Name='13+'/>
    <Rating Code='3' Name='16+'/>
    <Rating Code='4' Name='18'/>

This is the only rating for the Province of Quebec

Doh! I tried to interpret it as some kind of flags, but didn't think of regions. Thanks.

The ratings "Adult" and "NR" are available for each locality in addition to the defined ones.
The Australian "R" is like the US NC-17 ,the Canadian "R", the British "18", or the German "FSK-18" and seems therfore mapped correctly. The Australian "X", which only refers to sexually explicit content, is covered by the generic "Adult" rating.

I understand what you are saying but why are R rated level 5 titles blocked from online display if they are not 'Adult' titles? The current scheme makes no sense in that regard.

I addition, the rating are incorrect in the current mapping. I have corrected that in my proposal. X+18 is an official rating here and should be included rather than using the generic 'Adult' rating.

Hence the reason why titles such as Apocalypse Now, Goodfellas, Carrie, Casino, City of God, Clockwork Orange, Cross of Iron, The Deer Hunter, etc, etc do not display. It is a poorly implemented system that needs to change.

Great...give me a negative vote for pointing out what numerous users ask for assistance about every week...'Why aren't my titles visible online?"

I have no objection to not displaying 'Adult' content online, just the fact that the current system is poorly implemented because it catches R rated films that have no pornographic subject matter and nothing offensive of that nature on the cover of the DVD that could cause harm to underage children.

Personally, I would have thought that all that was necessary was to post a warning before viewing an online collection that the collection may contain offensive content and get the user to accept. If that wasn't considered sufficient then by all means block the 'Adult' pornographic content but not R rated films such as the list I provided.

  </Locality>

If level 5 is supposed to be equal to NC-17 and therefore potentially blocked, then the "no age limit" as Level 5 is definitely wrong.

There are 4 official ratings in Taiwan: "R", "PG", "P", or "G"

The Government Information Office explains these this way ("This is a translation from the Chinese text of the regulations. In case of any discrepancy between the Chinese and English texts, the Chinese text shall govern."):
"R": Viewing is not permitted for those under 18.
"PG": Viewing is not permitted for children under 12; attention and guidance from parents, teachers, or seniors are required for adolescent viewers between 12 and 17.
"P": Viewing is not permitted for children under six; children viewers between six and 11 shall be accompanied and given guidance by parents, teachers, seniors, or adult relatives or friends.
"G":Viewing is permitted for audiences of all ages.
Link to the source.
I am not sure anymore why I added "no age limit" at the time as that seems to equal the "G" rating...

I would now say that the following equivalents can be drawn from that:
Internal=US rating=Taiwan rating:
Level 1='G'='G'
Level2='PG'='P'

Hence the reason why titles such as Apocalypse Now, Goodfellas, Carrie, Casino, City of God, Clockwork Orange, Cross of Iron, The Deer Hunter, etc, etc do not display. It is a stupid system that needs to change.

Personally I prefer to not use the term "stupid", but faulty when I talk about the way that Ken choose for implemented this. I'm 100% with you, but I think that Goodguy wants us to check if the rating are corect for our locality. By this I understand the name use and the order that they really are, the last one is what represent an adult rating (NC-17).

Feel free to discuss about the system in the other thread in the request forum.

P.S : If I'm wrong about what Mattias wants us to do, forget all the text that I wrote

According to source and others, codes 3 and 4 should be labelled 14A and 18A respectively (something I had noticed previously)...

As an aside, Canada has a set of classifications which is specific to Home Videos ('cause it apparently was insufficiently bureaucratic before). source

Fortunately, they use the same symbols (including 14A and 18A) although they are not completely the same

It's because we like to make everything complicated in our country. My province like to be distinct so she choose to have a complete different model...

We are so much different in the Province of Quebec than the ROC
