Did the definition of "Adult" change here for new submissions?

It seems as though the majority of newly submitted Risque/Softcore/Comedy titles are getting rejected, and the only reason I could see was a risque-sounding title and/or risque covers.

None of them are "Porn" or anything hardcore like that (most even rated R), and are (or have been) sold at normal retailers.

Do you actually need to add "Adult" to the genres now to even get them accepted?

If they are not actually X-rated (or NC-17) then you shouldn't be using "Adult" for the rating.  That totally screws up the rating system.

I actually had to make a contribution yesterday for Catwoman... had to change it back to pg-13 because it was rated Adult! and that one isn't risque in any sense.

Except the risk of watching a boring movie.

LOL... what can I say... I love the bad movies just as much as the good ones!

They just have to be my taste in bad.

FWIW I've never been sure of Adult genre.

Is it supposed to be only for use:

1 Only on hardcore/adult films
or
2 (as the British Film Classifaction people put it) films "whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation" so would cover hardcore and softcore (which would be separated by the actual Classification being Adult on hardcore)
or
3 Any title with strong sex scenes

Personally I totally disagree with 3 - it's just misleading and open to waaaay too much interpretation
My preference would be 2 (so long as it was made CLEAR in the Rules preferably) provided that the rating of Adult only applies to hardcore releases.
Going with (1) is a bit redundant IMO because that makes the classification and genre have identical meanings for Adult.

Oh, FWIW in reply to the thread's original point, I suspect the overwhelming number of titles being uploaded at the moment means that the screeners are erring on the side of caution rather than checking what is suitable and what isn't. For now they're probably working on the idea that 10 rejected 'saucy' movies (which can be resubmitted later) are better than one hardcore movie that slips through without an Adult rating!

I'll fess up. My bad.

I forgot to change the rating before I submitted it in the big "let's dump our collections into the database to get it going" free-for-all on Monday.

I've got that title - and a few others - rated as 'Adult" because I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I have them, and I don't want my friends to know about those titles then they look at my online collection. None of them are actually adult (or porn).

Ya know, if you have a reputation for liking good films, you don't want people to know that you have some really bad, tacky, guilty pleasures.

Really? I am just the opposite... I am proud of the fact that my tastes in movies ranges of all kinds... A movie for any person in any mood! Well pretty much... there is some things not in my collection at all or very little. but yoiu get the idea. I feel no shame and take no slack... I used to hear from some ppl about some of my tastes till I said... thats cool... I enjoyed it and that is all that matters.

And then they pretty much just left me alone and concentraite on their tastes.

Sounds right to me

However, further to my earlier comment:

Some of the declines are when multiple people have submitted the contribution
Some do appear to be a bit on the over-cautious side

Nope, none were rated X or even NC-17. Just late-night T&A fare with racy titles and coverart, abeit no worse than a Maxim 'zine on a shelf at a local store.

Some of the DVD's in question are:

Bikini Academy
Bikini Chain Gang
13 Erotic Ghosts
Prison A-Go-Go!
Hookers in a Haunted House
Scream Queen Hot Tub Party
Tropical Tease
Wild Child 2

All are in the old Intervocative database with no problems. The titles also weren't submitted by anyone else (at least currently) in the contribution notes. I would have understood the declines then.

This is my fault. If you submit them again, I will look at them again. I was being too stringent. Apologies for the inconvience.

I was a little confused on some of the foreign ratings and missed the target a bit on some others.

Just a note to remember:  many people seem to confuse the Adult genre with the rating.  A lot of stuff that is NR is NOT X-rated or NC-17, but has an Adult setting in genre because it is not appropriate for children.

Cool, I think they all got approved now on the retry submissons.

Now I only have about 800 or so titles yet to go!
