I live in Canada and I'm finding quite a few DVDs that have UPC numbers that are not in the database but which have a title and content that is almost identical to a DVD (or DVDs) already in the database.  There are generally only three differences that I can find. The first is that my DVD usually has a slightly different case cover (like a small circle with a notation "Canadian Home Video and a 14A rating or some French wording added).  The second difference is that the Disc IDs are not the same as the UPC already in the database.  The third difference is that the Canadian release date is usually a week or so later than the U.S. release date.  Incidentally, in this later situation, I'm assuming it's the Canadian release date that should be used.  Is that correct?

Is there some way that I can use the existing database entry of another UPC which I find by Title and then change the UPC and Disc IDs to match my DVD?  This would save so much time in reentering all the information that has already been entered for the UPC number that is in the database.  The problem is that I can't find any way to change the UPC number.

Is there an easy way to enter the data for a UPC not in the database when almost all the information is already in the database under the same title but a different UPC?

Wow!  Thanks.  I just got started with DVD Profiler this week and I read as much as I could about how to use it both here in the Forums and especially the "Contribution Rules".  I don't recall seeing anything in the "Contribution Rules" about the "Locality" field located under the DVD menu that you've mentioned to me.  I now realize that my entire collection ought to have "Canada" as the Locality entry. 

I've already uploaded 7 UPCs not previously in the database; 5 have been released and 2 are pending.  I guess that I should go back and update these profiles to change the locality to Canada.  Is that correct?

Sorry for my confusion.  Perhaps a discussion of the "Locality" entry could be added to the "Contribution Rules".

No. I've never used an existing UPC as a template for a different UPC.  That's why I asked the question as to how to do it.

The 7 submissions that I've made so far were all for UPCs not in the database and I created the profile entirely manually; including my own scans and Dic IDs.  I think the only mistake I've made with these submissions was not knowing that I had to set the Locality to Canada because it defaults to the U.S.

Great.  This thread has been very helpful.  My Locality now defaults to Canada (English).

I guess the two 'Canadian issues' that remain are the Release Date and the SRP.  I have no idea where to locate the Canadian release date, which I think is generally about a week after the U.S. date.  Should I use the U.S. date or leave this blank?  And the Canadian SRP is something I would never know.  For new DVDs I'll know the purchase price but I'd have no way of knowing if this is the Canadian SRP.  How should I handle these fields?

You can use Amazon.ca, dvdboxoffice.com, futureshop.ca  or cinemaclock.com.  But, generally, release dates are similar to US releases.

please note that the locality is nothing to do with where you live - it refers to the DVD, So for instance although I live in the UK, when I buy a dvd from America then the locality is USA, and when I buy a dvd from a Canadian retailer then they are Canadian locality.
