And that is your preference.  What makes your preference the correct one?

Web sites are there also for the looks, if you agree or not that is life.

You are correct, websites are there for looks as well and using the actual link, as the displayed link text, just doesn't look good...regardless of which version you prefer.  Both versions are ugly and arguing over which one is less ugly just seems silly to me.  A better choice would be to ask Ken for something that does look nice.  Something like:

Sony Pictures

JMHO.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I agree with Unicus though.. if concerned about the looks of the link we should have the ability to put link text.

This would also help for trailers and clips... Instead of having a list of links that you have know idea what they are you can actually have meaningful links such as...

Movie Trailer
"whatever " Clip

... and so on. I think that would be a huge help.

I never said my preference was the correct one. I just said this was a reason to do it.

another reason to do it like this, when you go with the mouse over the link it shows in the browser what the link looks like, and as a measure of safty I rather see a clean link, then one I have to decipher before I click them.

Bad example: Your bad-looking link is an invalid link.
Your good-looking link is just another variety which the affected website supports and thus not a violation of the URL schema.
The discussion of bad-looking vs. good-looking started, because of the reserved characters, which are not allowed in this specific context in URLs. These are used for other things in URLs like requests to the server.
E.g. look at this URL:
http://www.invelos.com/MessagePost.aspx?task=replyquote&TopicID=277662&MessageID=650777
Reserved characters are ?, &, =
This are used here to tell the server what to do by building a chain of "input parameters". You should not use them in another context.
Other example: Search for "hello world" in google will get you this request link for the google server:
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=hello+world&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=
Reserved characters used here: ?, =, &, +

so the bad link:
http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/andnowladiesandgentlemen?q=And%20now%20...%20Ladies%20&%20Gentlemen
is what the site is offering after the search and this is what the others want to use.

Sorry, I have made a mistake here. Yes, this way I would use it, if that specific site would not have the alternative link.
Your bad link is rendered automatically to a "readable" link when hovering over it in Firefox (in the status bar). There it did show up as "http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/andnowladiesandgentlemen?q=And now ... Ladies & Gentlemen". And this would be of course an incorrect link.

Hello Giga Wizard, TomGaines and all others providing valueable informations in this thread. To be honest I'm not an expert to distinguish between good, bad, valid, invalid, alternative etc. links. According to my amateurish understanding, I thought that a working link is a good link.

So thank you all for the disabuse!

But now, it's IMHO up to the initiator and site owner to define very clear what kind of links are valid to contribute to avoid further confusion!

Again: thanks for all your responses!

What disabuse? (to free from error, fallacy, or misconception) Houston we have a communication problem! We are all in the learning process and our interpretation of these links and don't have the faintest idea what Ken is up to with those links. So a good discussion is always welcome, not?

If the link functions either way, the extra parameters are discouraged but removal is not required.  In the event a shorter valid version is submitted and the original becomes a duplicate, it should be removed.

So, to head off any duplicate effort it would be best to submit the link without the extra parameters.

However, we don't encourage anyone to submit shortened versions for these en masse if they are not the original submitter.  If the link works as-is, let it be.  There are plenty of profile-site links yet to be made.
