Here you can hear how it should be pronounced.

However, there's a perfectly good German translation: Herzogenbusch!
For our French friends: Bois-le-Duc! In Spanish: Bolduque. Italian: Boscoducale. Latin: Silva Ducis.
There just does not seem to be an English name around... (except during our annual jazz festival, which is called Jazz in Duke Town - but that's not an accurate translation)

P.S.
Don't know if you heard about this before, but during WW2 Dutch resistance members tried to verify whether new resistance members were actually German infiltrators by making them pronounce "Scheveningen". If they were actually German agents, this would expose them. 's-Hertogenbosch would have done the trick as well, I reckon.

So I basically pronounce it right. Scheveningen is easier imho but of course all the stupid Germans that are there on holidays pronounce it wrong But then again, they even pronounce Den Haag wrong on German TV. Let's face it, people are stupid

to you if you were doing it right all along, hydr0x!

I can't blame the average German for being unaware how to pronounce names in a foreign language though...

well, Den Haag is important enough to be known by everyone and political journalists should know how to pronounce it, shouldn't they?

Benelux is actually made up of 3 countries, Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Although the 3 countries together still represent a small portion of Europe, it's nice to see, that for the moment, we are rather high up in the ranks of this poll

I live in Belgium, by the way.

Ahoj! Both towns are beautifull, but only in Košice I found a DVD shop (but that one was really good    ).

Why the differentiation in North, South and middle Germany? Normally it's East and West Germany.

Maybe I am wrong and the East / West differentiation would be a more logical one, but I think there are somehow different traditions that differentiate the North and the South, also for historic reasons.

Long time ago

The East / West differentiation is a more present one, but for me it's just Germany (concerning this poll).

This thread was a very good idea!
