Preparation of the legislative proposal of the new Act on Audiovisual Programs clearly states that these symbols are not reasons for the given rating, but further information of the content.

= Rating Details
Quote:
The verbal translation of these symbols is always the same: "Sisältää väkivaltaa", "Sisältää seksiä", "Voi aiheuttaa ahdistusta" or "Sisältää päihteidenkäyttöä".

Yes, but again they are still symbols for Rating Details, not for Ratings.

Why would we need a free text field for fixed content?

Because we still need free text field for at least "Uudet ikärajat, tarkastetut" ratings.

Wouldn't it be easier to select this content from a drop-down menu rather than always type it again?

Yes, but this should be modification for Rating Details field, NOT for Ratings field.

Yes, you want to merge Rating Details data with Ratings data.

I get where you are coming from, but I think you are making things unnecessarily complicate and want to change whole database structure. Better and IMHO correct way to achieve the same results would be:

- Ken adds new ratings to localities.xod. No Program changes needed.
- After this has been implemented we could ask a program change (Open a new thread) so that if "Uudet ikärajat, tarkastetut" or "Vanhat ikärajat" has been selected we have free text field for Rating Details. On the other hand if the selection is >2012 ratings we get a dropdown menu.
- Before that we must make sure that we know all possible combinations for symbols. I'm sending post to MEKU at the moment. It doesn't make any sense that only two symbols out of four can be used simultaniously. If I had to rate for example Serbian Film it would be very hard to decide which two symbols I should leave out. It has more than enough on every sector

Yes we need, and probably for these new ratings too, if the reasons for the given rating are written in the decision. There is no need to write the fixed content information in the free text field, if that could go to the rating field.

As I said, the content information should go to the rating field, not to rating details, which is the place for the reasons of given rating.

The database for the Finnish ratings kept by MEKU.

I have already given you all the possible combinations for symbols and the pics of these. The total number is 60. MEKU has already decided that a rating logo can have max 2 content symbols in the order of the most dominant detrimental content.

I don’t want to start arguing here, I have just given my opinion to this, that’s all. Time to start watching movies for a change.

IFF Content information doesn't equal Rating Details, we need to ask a new field instead of merging this info to the fields it doesn't belong.

Do you know it these symbols are used in other EU countries too? Or is it Finland only? I think that I've seen these in UK purchased games, but I can't remember if they were exactly the same. Do you have any better knowledge?

You are probably thinking of the Pan European Game Information rating system, see e.g. Wikipedia

Rating symbols have been adopted from PEGI (although Bad Language, Discrimination and Gambling don't seem to warrant being mentioned in the context of movie rating).

While I can understand the temptation to have these "Content Information/Rating Detail" symbols encoded into the Rating list itself (as there's a fixed set of combinations), IMHO it would look very unnatural. I feel these classifications belong somewhere between the current DVD Profiler Rating and Rating Details concepts, but if I'd have to choose one, I'd be much happier seeing them as part of Rating Details.

I'm a bit late here, but want to still express my opinion. I have one disc with a new rating logo:

This means "Sallittu yli 12-vuotiaille: Voi aiheuttaa ahdistusta, sisältää väkivaltaa". As there are 50 new rating logos, IMO we need to have 50 different rating descriptions in order to distinguish all the different 7, 12, 16 and 18 ratings and to make possible to have a correct rating logo pic for each rating in phpDVDprofiler. This would require something like this:
....

No no.

Quoting Kulju:
Quote:
You are mixing ratings with rating details. In this case:

Rating: Sallittu yli 12-vuotiaille
Rating Details: Voi aiheuttaa ahdistusta, sisältää väkivaltaa

IMHO those two fields should be kept separete as they are at the moment.

Totally agree. This is the correct method.

Folks in Netherlands has used this same method for many years.

This change has now been implemented, and will be released with tonight's database update.

I'm little nervous, but let's see how change will go.

I'm a more than a bit nervous since I remember well last time when ratings were modified. It took at least three iterations to get them correctly. Between each iteration round I had to correct all my +1500 profiles manually. Now I'm carefully backed up and ready to take the dive

Just few minutes ago refreshed database update => this is now implemented.

At first look everything seems to be just fine. Now, let's dig little deeper ... fingers crossed.

And here we go....

At least --> Uudet ikärajat:3, Doesn't list S/T, S/T 6, S/T 8, S/T 10, S/T 12, 3, 7, 11, [3], [7], [11]
At least --> Uudet ikärajat:11, Lists also NR, S/T, 3, [3], 7, [7], S/T 8, S/T 10
At least --> Uudet ikärajat:13, Doesn't list 13, [13], 15, K/F 16
At least --> Uudet ikärajat:15, Doesn't list anything
At least --> Uudet ikärajat:18, Lists all ratings
At least --> Uudet ikärajat:[18], Doesn't list anything
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:NR, Doesn't list anything
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T, Doesn't list S/T, S/T 6, S/T 8, S/T 10, S/T 12, S/T 14, K/F 16, 3, 7, 11, 13, 15, [3], [7], [11], [13],
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T 6, Lists also NR, S/T, 3, [3]
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T 8, Lists also 7, [7]
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T 10, Doesn't list S/T 10, S/T 12, S/T 14, 11, 13, 15
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T 12, Lists also NR, S/T, 3, [3], 7, [7], S/T 8, S/T 10, 11, [11]
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:S/T 14, Doesn't list anything
At least --> Vanhat ikärajat:K/F 16, Doesn't list anything

Don't even wan't to continue testing further, since at this stage it's easy to say that Rating Filters doesn't follow any logic or doesn't work at all. Rating Filters also have old rating options. I don't have any titles with > 2012 Ratings so I have no idea how filters work with them. I believe that we have a loooooong way to go until these are fixed.

Correct. Take a look here - move your cursor over the symbols in the red box.

BTW it has been standing practice with Dutch profiles for many years to enter the meaning of the symbols such as Angst (Fear), Geweld (Violence) etc. into the Rating Details field of DVD Profiler.

It's similar but not the same. I was hoping that this change would have been based on some new European standard.

Invelos replied: "It is not related to the new ratings. It is an intermittent bug. Try restarting DVD Profiler.
It occurs after the online profile list is refreshed and before the program has been restarted."

After restart Rating Filter worked correctly with one exception:

"Ikärajat 2012 alkaen: S" and "Ikärajat 2012 alkaen: T" should return the same results. Now S returns correctly and T incorrectly. What I understand from localities.xod I believe that line:

<Rating Name="T" Description="Tillåtet för alla åldrar" Age="6"/>

Should be:

<Rating Name="T" Description="Tillåtet för alla åldrar" Age="1"/>
