Hi everyone,

It's not so easy to find Onkyo hometheater equipment in Belgium and even when I find it, it's mostly quite expensive.

Our first thought was to import from Japan but the weight is too high and we would need too many voltage converters to power the subwoofer & amp.

Now, I've found it's possible to import speakers & subwoofers, as well as amps from Germany where Onkyo's EU headquarters is, at reasonable prices. The big question is, won't I have difficulties using that equipment in Belgium regarding plugs & voltage? I think Germany is exactly the same as Belgium, but would like some feedback on the matter.

Thanks in advance!

Germany's plugs and voltage are exactly the same as Belgium's, no worries there.

Local contact for Onkyo in Belgium:
Tel: +329 380 81 80
Fax: +329 386 12 35
Email: info@jobetrade.be

Here's Onkyo's Belgian distributor.
The current catalogue is here.

If you'd like to compare Belgian prices, go here.
For German prices, go here.
A German webshop I've used myself to good effect in the past is Hifi-Regler.

Hope this helps!

You're more than welcome!

If you can read German, this is a site with extensive tests.

In Germany it's
230V at 50Hz
and the plug looks like this

If it's in Belgium same you should have no problems.

Region Code is same so it should work.

Hello Taro,

I purchased my Onkyo at Deltavox.

You can always call them for a price. They will probably give you the standard retail price. You can ask if you can get a reduction.

A friend of mine succeeded in knocking of 99€ of the TX-SR705 for me, 2 years ago. I first got the list price of 899€, but finally bought it for 800€. The dealer kind of knew him since he purchased other equipment there before. But you can still try. If they refuse to give a reduction, you can still shop in Holland or Germany.

The shop is located close to Bruges.

Thanks a lot. Didn't know that shop yet but I'll certainly look into it. I'm not having a lot of trouble finding shops where I can buy the receiver, however it's the Onkyo speakers that seem to be hard to find. So I'm going to contact them, see if they carry the speakers and subwoofers of Onkyo and check their price on the receiver as well. Thanks again!

Onkyo is always a good choice and as far as warranty is concerned you'll get the full 3 years (Onkyo provides 3 years instead of the normal two) everywhere in Europe. You just need to register on their website..
I've worked a lot with Onkyo as a company and they are always very reliable.. I also use an Onkyo Receiver myself.. So if you have any technical questions feel free to ask!

Thanks Stephane, your insights are most welcome.

I've sample the receiver I'm eyeing now the first time in a demo-room in Japan and was very impressed with the clarity and nice directional effects of the setup.

I don't want to put down any brands, but next to that was a demo-room for a Bose setup that costs about 5-6 times what the Onkyo setup costs, and I found it was very bombastic, loud, strong LFE but it lacked the finesse that the Onkyo set has. I had the impression that Bose tries to impress us with powerful sound, but less precise sound than some other brands.

Anyway, Onkyo it is for me and thanks for the suggestion. I'll make sure to register at their site!

You are very polite not to put down any brands. I'll put down Bose they are the best marketed snake oil going.
