I don't know whether or not they do but, I have seen actors credited smack dab in the middle of an IMDb profile, that are nowhere in the film credits.

They do that also with the uncredited cast by listing performerss who are nowhere to be seen in the film (at least it's usual with the adult movies and it's probably the only film genre where I can recognize almost anyone). They also enter role when none is listed in the credits. Another one of their trick is to replace the director of photography credit by a cinematographer credit and vice et versa in a movie. Also, of course, the spelling error.

I check the disc data against IMDB, make corrections accordingly (spelling, credit order, etc.) and just copy and paste the names into the profile (saves wear and tear on my hands from doing all that typing).  And if I'm  auditing a movie away from my computer, I'll print out the cast list from IMDB while watching the disc credits, correct the errors by crossing them out and writing the correct spelling/name and putting them in correct credit order (if necessary), and contribute.  But I do NOT blindly use IMDB without checking the disc FIRST.  Many people have said it, so I'll repeat it:  IMDB is chock full of errors, especially concering the cast.  When I was contributing the Road Trip Beer Pong movie, IMDB has WAY more cast listed than were credited on the disc.  Most were uncredited, but some were listed as being credited, but the disc credits said otherwise.  Long story short, IMDB is rarely right.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

[conspiracy_theorist_mode] Ken's statement cleared up nothing. He only states "To my knowledge, IMDB never contacted InterVocative or Invelos for any reason." He might as well said "I have no recollection of that" [/conspiracy_theorist_mode]

for the record I never did believe the rumor and am also glad Ken finally commented on it

I can remember exactly how a user has tried to spread a rumour via private messages that Amazon has sued Intervocative.

I recall those rumors too.

But really, all it takes is a look at IMDB's Terms of Service, and to think about Ken as being a creator with intellectual property rights.  If he were to sanction theft of IMDB's data (and since as all agree, it doesn't match the movie credits, it emphatically is THEIR data), he could hardly complain about someone setting up another site and selling DVD Profiler themselves.  It's about respect for other people's property.

It is commonly believed that they put "markers" in their data so that it can be identified if copied elsewhere.

I don't know whether or not they do but, I have seen actors credited smack dab in the middle of an IMDb profile, that are nowhere in the film credits.  So I suspect that it is true.

I've done enough audits and seen enough mistakes to believe there's no way some of them are't intenional. On a recent audit of El Marichi/Desperado double feature, nearly every cast member had some form of accent on a vowel in their name. All of these accented won the CLU battle with ease, yet 90% of them were only in the database for the one or 2 films. Meaning the imdb accented names aren't really common, and imdb was mined plenty back in the intervocative days.
I had the same thing happen with a handful of low-budget horror films from Spain. Accents for everyone, no one credited with them.

If you don't like what people contribute, lock up your local and don't worry about it. You don't have to post here or do contributions to enjoy the program. If the forums drive you crazy, stay away.

This was about a period of time when users were panicked, we had no communication from Intervocative for a very long time. There was some concern about some form of pssible legal action and given some otherr thing which were known Amazon seemed possible. As it turned out the user was absolutely CORRECT about the legal action, but it was from a different corner.

So it was at the beginning of Invelos, weird that I have forgot this. Maybe I should check the Intervocative board to refresh my memory.

No, it was before Invelos by about a year. We did not learn exactly what was going on until, after Invelos opened up shop.

Completely wrong! We know nothing at all that Intervocative has ever been sued for anything by anybody. As you have said yourself, the Amazon rumour incident has happened even before Invelos has been existing. As we know Intervocative (some of the owners) has sued Invelos (the owner) about a year later. And for the new users out there, this has led to the situation that Intervocative is owned by Invelos.
