Just though I'd create a poll as there are lots of people asking for both versions, I vote Android but lets see what others thinks

Even with Android outselling iPhone last quarter, the two being even in the poll really surprises me. I'd figured iPhone would be running away with it.

The poll is kinda moot as the iPhone/iPad app is in active development now.

That was my thought.  We even have a new subforum for it.

Very, very true, but at least it reinforces the interest in an Android app.

Ken has already given a gigantic hint that an Android version might be on the way eventually.  Not sure anymore evidence needs to be presented.

Still, it's an interesting poll.

Just got an iPad, and also have an Android phone, so either way, I'm covered.

I just bought an Android phone, but I'd rather have it run under Linux on my netbook. But then I guess an Android version could be ported to Linux without to much hassle?

Yes please for an Android version of DVD Profiler. Ideally it will need to support Android 1.5 (or at least 1.6). You could alternatively only support Android 2.1/2.2 and gain it's features.

Android 1.6 or above is probably a happy medium. There are loads of Android 1.6 devices out there that are unlikely to see official upgrades. Personally I'm using an HTC Desire (which runs Android 2.1).

I also suggest stopping development of the Windows Mobile version (I imagine it's a mature and stable app by now) and move the time spent on that over to Android. Windows Mobile is all but dead, being replaced with Windows Phone later this year and Windows Phone obviously is a very immature platform. Microsoft have confirmed Windows Mobile apps won't work on Windows Phone, so you'd need to start scratch anyway (I guess).

In this day and age any Smartphone App developer needs to support iOS and Android OS, with Blackberry OS coming in third. There's little point supporting WebOS any time soon (how many people even have a Palm Pre/Pixi?), you'd be better off releasing a MAC OS and Linux version before that.

p.s - A Mobile version of the Online profile link (i.e - http://www.invelos.com/dvdcollection.aspx/xxx) would be handy. That would be easy to create (just make it scale down to fit small screens) and should work across platforms.

In my opinion the best solution would be the development of an online version that offers support across multiple platforms, eliminating the need to write custom applications for each platform.
In my opinion focusing on one or two platforms is the wrong decision considering that each platform has only a limited market share and not the same status as Windows on the desktop. If you are serious in targeting the mobile market, you have to consider the following platforms at the moment:
- iPhone
- Android
- Blackberry
- Windows Phone 7 (don't underestimate the platform; Microsoft will definitely be in it for the long run)
- WebOS (depending on the future HP strategy)
- Bada (depending on the future Samsung strategy)
- Symbian (just to put everything in perspective: current market share near 50%; it's loosing but still the #1 mobile operating system)

Each of these platforms has its own SDK and you have to rewrite some/many portions of the application for each platform. The easiest solution would be a platform independent web solution, since this limits the development efforts.

I have had a Windows Mobile device for over ten years but just got an Android (Samsung Captivate).  I will miss being able to review/update my collection in DVD Profiler on my smart phone but the platform has simply not kept up.

I would defiantly buy an Android version!
