I'm having an argument with a reviewer of one contribution about original scores. While the rules a clear wrt. song writers ("Original Songs, written specifically for the film"), I am unsure about the rule for Composers: there are many DVD soundtracks that use classical music as "original" score, think of Strauss and Khachaturyan for 2001: A space odyssey, Beethoven for A clockwork orange, Bach for many Bergman and Tarkvosky movies, Mozart in Milos Forman's Amadeus, ... . In many case, classical music is the only soundtrack.

Can we contribute (classical) musical composers as "music composers"?

If not, then I (we) are into trouble for many contributions, e.g. it will be impossible to contribute meaningful data for all Opera DVDs (either movies such as Losey's Don Giovanni, or filmed opera productions, such as Tarkovsky's Boris Godunov.)

Actually a good question...

I would say: If they are listed in the credits, then we should add them - if not, we leave them out...

I think that you make a good point - the music area of the rules needs some review to allow for the variety of situations that do occur. I don't think "keep it local" is the answer.

If you have access to the rules committee forum, then I suggest that you start a thread there to look at the rules - what is allowed under "composer" and "song writer" as at present there is some confusion and unforeseen issues.

If we are talking about Opera I am sure you can contribute the composer. After all, the music was written for just the opera and nothing else. Its not like some other composer is gonna come along and write new music for Pucinni's La Boheme.

That would also be my choice for a rule.

Hmmm - La Boheme as a very long rap... Now there's an idea that would probably give this genre some new followers...

Well, you own Fantasia 2000 that lists Ludwig van Beethoven, Ottorino Respighi, George Gershwin, Dmitri Shostakovich, Camille Saint-Saëns, Paul Dukas, Sir Edward Elgar, and Igor Stravinsky as Composers.

Could you please submit a change to that profile to remove them?

Agreed. This is on my list for sure.
