Guess not James.

Looks like your going to have to give this away at fire sale prices to get rid of it.

We could always start a big fight and get the thread locked.

Or we qould turn it into one of those silly "quote" threads

Why would any studio buff want to take this over? No one wants to listen, all they want to do is fight.

What a joke...good one, rick.

Sorry for not reading the entire thread, but I have read parts of it, and feel I have a general idea.

From the contribution rules:
Quote:
The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself

I think this should be a good start even when it comes to studios.

What I'm a bit confused about is:
Often it says on the cover and the start of the film: "Shangri-La Entertainment presents a Material Films production"

What does this tell me? Is this a good start for selecting studios? BTW this film is "The Big Bounce", and it has a Warner Bros. logo on it. Both Shangri-La and WB has copyrights. I'm just a bit unsure to where what goes. What is Media, and how can I know which name is the Media?

Usually, that tells you the theatrical release studio and the production company.  'Theatrical Release Studio presents a Production Company production'.  In this case, however, it seems that they are both production companies and Warner Brothers did the distribution.

For this film, based on the information you provided, the Studios would be entered as follows:

Warner Bros. Pictures
Shangri-La Entertainment
Material Films

No need to be  as this is a question that doesn't have a clear answer.  For Profiler purposes, the Media Companies will be the company that produced/distributed the DVD for your locality.  It is usually found on the bace of the case.  When I have more time, I am on my way to work, if you could provide the EAN I will add it to my collection to see if I can figure it out for you.

Thank you very much, no need to do that, though. I didn't mean I was wondering about this particular film, but gave this as an example.

Your reply gave me much info, so I think I get the idea now. The Media should no longer be an issue, as there aren't that many in our country.

On second thought, I have one final question. The EAN: 7-321940-283685:
It says on the back:
Quote:
copyright Shangri-La. Package Design etc. copyright Warner Bros Entertainment. Distributed by Warner Home Video.

So it seems Shangri-La owns the film, but Warner owns the packaging. So if so, which is the "Theatrical Release Studio(s)"? And should both Warner companies be listed?

I guess Media is: "Sandrew Metronome Norge"?

Obviously Shangri-La Entertainment and Material Films from the opening credits go into "studios", but at the very end of the credits it says: "Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures", so that one goes in as well (and, as theatrical release studio, it gets listed first). That's the easy part. As for "media companies": unfortunately, there are no rules on what these are. That is, probably, because nobody actually knows... From what you're telling me, and from my own copy of 'The Big Bounce', I would personally certainly include Warner Home Video and Sandrew Metronome (mind you: the rules tell us to drop locality suffixes, so no "Norge") as "media companies".

Whether Warner Bros. Entertainment should be included, in addition to Warner Home Video, I'm not too sure about. Why? Because "Warner Home Video" and "Warner Bros. Entertainment" seem to refer to the same company. I've checked a few dozen Warner DVD's, and somewhere, they all seem to say something like "Distributed by Warner Home Video, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment" (or a translation of that). So should we list them both, or should we restrict ourselves to just one of them, since one is merely a division of the other? As of yet, I've felt "Warner Home Video" was enough, but then again: the lack of rules on the field you can do basically anything you want... There are bound to be users feeling strongly either way, and unfortunately, as of yet nobody is right or wrong.

Thanks again for all your work Think I'm pretty much up to speed then.

BTW the Sandrew Metronome Norge is listed as Sandrew Metronome Norge AS, so I guess that's its name and not a suffix; right?

"AS" would be the company suffix, "Norge" would be the locality suffix. We drop both, leaving simply "Sandrew Metronome".

I know what you're saying. But in my opinion, AS is a suffix, but Norge is in the name. (Norge) btw would probably be a locality suffix. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't call it a suffix if it's in the name, like Johnny English is a name, and not just a locality suffix.

I get that it's hard to know if it's a suffix or not when it's written like that, but when AS is behind Norge I guess it's part of the name. had it been the other way around; Sandrew Metronome AS Norge, I would've called it a locality suffix.

Edit:
I actually searched the Norwegian company register, and the name is actually Sandrew Metronome Norge AS. In my opinion a name is a name, and a suffix is not part of a name, which would not make it a suffix.

But with that said I guess you're right. The contribution rules states that suffixes such as LLC, Ltd., Inc. should be left out, so I guess we'll just call them suffixes anyway then.

Just one last note: TV2 Norge should be TV2, right? But it has nothing to do with TV2 Denmark, so wouldn't that just make things confusing?

Again thanks for the help guys.

Wait, I just found another good one; SF Norge would be just SF, which stands for Swedish Film or something similar. Would that then just be F?
