| Posted: | | | | As my current TV (32" Samsung R88 LCD) is on its last legs I've decided to start looking for a new one before this one just dies suddenly. My current room only allows for a 46" TV (the horizontal gap is 109cm but could be pushed to 115ish) so I was thinking of getting a decent projector for when I get a new place. But as I have no experience with projectors and the center speaker would end up being behind the screen I decided against it. So now I'm thinking of going LED. I've been looking at this and this. Ignore the price jump of the 8900, there's a local shop doing it for £900. The 8900 is full LED backlit whereas the 5900 is edge lit. And the 8900 has 200hz refresh rate compared to the 5900's 100hz. Worth the extra £100? Or does anyone have any other recommendations? |

Why not add a floating wall shelve for the center speaker? I added my center speaker to almost ceiling height. Pekodom does very good floating shelves that can hold up to 30kg of weight. As far as TV's go, i have no idea. As i don't have one. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

| Posted: | | | | As for the speakers; my current setup is an old set of 7.1 Creative Gigaworks speakers connected to an Onkyo 705. I have however replaced the center with an old Yamaha NS-C110. They have served me well but I'm now getting lots of distortion on some DVDs and most Blurays so I think it's time for an upgrade. The surrounds seem ok so I'm looking to just replace the 2 fronts, the center and the sub (because this rattles). |

Ditched the TV, when the went digital here. I save over 200e/year from TV payments, and invest it on DVDs (which i watch from a home projector) | | | Last edited: by whispering |

be careful that you don't get too large a screen if you are sitting close to the screen. I used a website to calculate the optimum size of screen based on measurements I made with a tape measure of how close I would be sitting to it. And I have a very nice 42".. My neighbour got a 50" and talked about having to take it back (before deciding they would have to keep it.).. Also, by saving on the size I got a much better quality picture than my neighbour (I haven't told them) have a look http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/Tv-viewing-distance.htmland http://www.dtvcity.com/lcdtv/lcdscreensize.html | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |

| Posted: | | | | Ended up going for the Sony NX713. Was blown away as soon as I walked into the shop. Also went for a KEF Q200c center speaker. Hoping to get some floorstanding fronts to match when space permits. |

I just sit a bit further away, only drawback is I now have to lean forward to get my drink off the desk At least it'll be big enough for when I get a bigger place. |

have a look http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/Tv-viewing-distance.html and http://www.dtvcity.com/lcdtv/lcdscreensize.html I go by this one which seems quite a bit more strict than the one you posted. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
