| Posted: | | | | The photo I posted was not of the DVD I'm asking about, but is to show the case type. It is not self-burned. It is an instructional video packaged with a baseball batting trainer. (I'll look for the receipt if you want. ) Would anyone care to answer my questions? | | | Last edited: by CalebAndCo |

| Posted: | | | | I think you can still use clamshell, even though the one displayed is radically different as the case you show is definitely called a clamshell case. Problem is, I wasn't around when these descriptions were decided upon, so I don't know anything about the history of the clamshell case displayed on the first page. I know that when a similar type were used in the old VHS days, they were called clamshell cases - maybe that's where it came from.
Edit: it's possible that both case types are right, maybe it originally developed as an adaptation of the VHS original, but then developed into the shape we know now, fitting the medium in a much different way. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | Thank you, northbloke. I have a clamshell like the one on page 1; it's awful. The design worked fine for VHS, but for DVD...not so much. Any other opinions? |

| Posted: | | | | I would agree with everything that north said. The case type you have actually kind of resembles a clam. |

Don't you think it's time to add HD cases to the OP?
What is the difference between an HD slim and an HD Keepcase?
What case type is Smallville Season 7 (Blu ray)?
Dan will not be adding any new case types. As I recall, he disagreed with a decision Ken made and decided to let us fend for ourselves. At the bottom of page 3, he says:

| Posted: | | | | Hi! Hope you don't mind a quick question about cases... If I'm submitting a profile and the DVD come in a sort of a seethrough case (see picture/link) that still looks like a normal keepcase should it be entered as a keep case or a jewel case which is more correct? (personally I'm leaning towards normal keepcase) (here's the link if that didn't work: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i54/Dasa_2006/Case/Clearcase2.jpg ) |

| Posted: | | | | It's a keep case, just because it is semi-transparent does not make it a jewel case.<scratches head> Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

If that's the case then it shouldn't be contributed (although you can store it locally). Just for the records: Here are pics of an official CD release in such a clamshell... |

| Posted: | | | | Could some kind soul give an example of the difference between HD Keep Case and HD Slim (for Blu-ray)?
Is the former the case type that is the same thickness as a "regular" dvd case? (Like a PS3 game or the Play-TV software) And the latter the thinner case type normally used for Blu-ray movies?

/Ulf The thickness part sounds right. I'd say the HD Slim are around half the thickness of a HD Keep. Speaking from experience, in the UK the vast majority of our Blu-ray releases are in HD Keep Cases. I've only got a handful in HD Slim, and most of those were early purchases. Inversely, it seems that the US mostly uses HD Slim cases, using the thicker variant only for multiple disc releases. |

| Posted: | | | | That's the way I understand it too. HD Keep is the same thickness as a regular DVD. I've got quite a few of those because I import a lot from the UK. In the Netherlands we use the thinner type, there's a very noticable difference in thickness. |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, thanks.
Sweden matches the Netherlands in that then. Movie cases are 2/3 the thickness of regular Keep Cases and ususally made of transparent blue plastic. |

| Posted: | | | | Are you quite sure, Dan? Some of those I would personally class as Slip Case for the parent profile (i.e. those holding several keep cases). |
