BTW In my personal collection, I'm missing Swiss German the most.

In mine it's the Dutch dialect Flemish. So if only this one would be added I'm happy enough.

Me too. Bought Just another DVD with Flemish (or 'Other'): Mulan.

Oh FHarlock... you forgot tags... with tags you can do it. Tags, notes, the final solutions for everything...
All can do with tags. In that case, We don't need evolutioning progran.

It's normal have million of tags? Few can be util, but if you put maney, can be ridiculos. I now must need 17 tags for language audios. Ridiculus.

I must do hard work with tags and lost my time when these feature is implemented.

You asking what's wrong with 'Other'? Try to quess what langages are on disc as they described as following:
Audio:    Other DD 5.1
              Other DD 5.1
              Other DD 5.1
Subtitles: Other

Some of my indeterminated titlles:
One Shin Chan Film: Audio: Spanish DD5.1. Other DD 5.1. Other DD 5.1. Other DD 5.1. (Catalan, euskera, galician)
Another Shin Chan Film: Audio: Spanish DD5.1. Other DD 5.1. Other DD 5.1. Other DD 5.1. (Catalan, euskera, galician)

Aupa Etxebeste: Other, audiocmentary (The two in euskera).

11' 09'' 01. Spanish and Other. (VO is in 6 language or more).
Pleno verano. Spanish and other. (Vietnamit).
...

When i put in filtres audio other, I have 110 titles.   I can continuet listing titles with problems to know language. Some in basque, some in catalan, some in galicia, some in Bambara, some in Thai, some in Vietnamit, some... More than 10% of mi collection. Is horror. And I need do profiler for 16 new titles buy in liquidation with euskera.

If I put other in subtitules filter, 174.

I think is not normal and many peoples have the same problem. Some more bigger or some small, but is not a problem of a few peoples and little problem.

I understand the problem to solve these, but is alsolluty esencial solve these.

Hope in addition of requested languages for audio & subtitles will soon fade away as new version still doesn't have any improvements in this matter.

I don't mean to sound uncaring about your interest in adding more languages to the audio section, but I suspect that few of the users of Profiler have the sort of collection that you have.  I would venture to say that your collection is unique here.  I doubt that there are more than a handful of users who collect DVDs in as many varied languages as you do.

And unfortunately, it is unreasonable to assume that Ken would add another 17 languages to the list to support the requirements of one (or even a couple) of users.  I have said before that there are definitely languages out there that SHOULD be added - ones that are needed for more than a few specialized users like yourself.  But I think it is not reasonable for Ken to add a language to the system because a user might have one DVD with that language track on it.  Or even if a user has a dozen of titles with that language used.  No program can meet all the needs of all the users.  It is frankly ridiculous to assume that anyone would try.  A program can evolve and be improved but still not be all things to all users.

I would point out that this request is evidently not very high in Ken's priorities for changes to Profiler - otherwise he'd have added the languages them long before now.

But Ken doesn't have to add 17 more languages to the program (unless that's easier of course), all he has to do is to give us an extra text field so we can actually type in what "other" is.
It could also be used to give more details on commentary tracks (which I've also seen requested before).

Because that, every few time some that don't know these post request again inclusion of more audio and subtitle language, we are a few users.

Think in the next, Dvdprofiler is a program that is used is you have a important dvd collection. If you have a little, you don't need a database. And dvd collerctors, are continuing buying films, some can have a little collection now, but in the future will have a more important collection.

And I have a important collection, but one my friend has 3 years ago more than I now.

I am trying that Ken do some, but that what he do, that it will be well thinking and well previst for the future. Not temporal solution.

Some language can have less use than others, but not because that not be interesting have they, if is easy have them, Why not have? Added like now was added languaje, is not a solution, I think the internal working of the database must be evolutioned, adding a little language used or adding all languajes are need.

Some must be do, but well do. For do well thing, is necesary put all posible problem and debat.

The problem with these request, if that request affects to database, and that meams importan work, Other reuqest not requiered touch the database, and can be implemented more easy. If database must be touch, will be do with head and with the thing very clear for no ned fast other touch, that meams do thing thinking in future.

The DVD world now is not so US centered when I started with my collection back in 2000 and most of my DVDs contained only 2-3 audio and subtitle tracks. Nowadays may such collection as yours be in minority and more people need extra languages to enter correct data to DVD database. Hoping that Ken will find some time to work on this matter...

In my collection of ~2000 titles I have 29 that need to list other for the audio tracks. In truth just adding 'Thai' would take care of 15 of them, for ten 'Thai' is the original language and for the others it is a dubbed track. As Ken Cole has not added a tool for us to check on how many users list a profile in their collection, there is no way for us to know how unique FHarlock's collection is.

Adding new languages to the list should be very simple, we are not asking for a re-write of the code.

Yes it is clear that Ken is working on other things, but if he could push this a bit higher on the list it would help some users out without much work on his side.

The DVD´s for foreing nations outside USA have many audio tracks. Maybe in USA with sapinsh, french, germany and the original language (in rare ocassions) is enough in the 99% of the realesaes, but in Europe and others countries is necesary the local/locals languages, and many times the same release is present in many countries. In my case, in Spain, around 80% of new releases includes one or more of the cooficial languages (catalonian, basque, valencian, galician) and portoguese because the release its the same in Sapin and Portugal and in several cases one or more of other european languages, and, of course, the original language. In Europe the new releases includes many european and foreing films maybe not releases in USA, and we need more languages as its possible. If Ken wants a program thinking in his european customers too, he can't ignore this question.

I believe there are roughly three times more languages in the list today than when I started using Profiler years ago, so things have been changed from time to time.

I'm not a programmer, but I think it would be less complicated to add 17 more languages to the program than it would be to add an extra text field.  But this sounds like an interesting idea to me.  It could also be used to identify descriptive audio tracks.

I still am skeptical that there are very many Profiler users whose database has titles with as many different language tracks as FHarlock's does.  I sympathize with his problem, however.

I'd suggest a re-design of the "Audio & Subtitles" section that it looks more like the "Discs" section with a grid and an "add line" button.

Then I'd suggest 3 columns for audio tracks: language, audio format and type

Type would be a choice of: original audio track, dubbed audio track, commentary, descriptive

Then I'd suggest 2 columns for the subtitles: language and type

Type would be a choice of: normal subtitle, subtitle for the hearing impaired, commentary.

I don't think the database schema has to be changed for the above, it's just a redesign of the UI.

Every day I learn how little I really know.  Maybe FHarlock's collection isn't so unique/uncommon as I thought - and that he's just the only one actively pursuing the expansion of subtitle languages.

It doesn't matter to me one way or another, since I am, unfortunately, only fluent in English (and I may not be all that fluent).  So, I don't have a dog in this hunt, only an opinion.
