What's This?

A plugin that enhances the preview of profile changes when accepting/rejecting updates from the Online database.

Feature Highlights

  • Synchronized side-by-side display of corresponding data in the existing and the new profile. No more frantic left and right scrolling necessary.

  • Exact highlighting of differences down to word level. Ensures that you can easily spot any changes even in large text fields like Overview.

  • Highlighting of inserted, deleted and re-ordered pieces of data.

  • Toggle between displaying all data sections or changed ones only.

  • Credits folding to focus on small differences in large cast and crew lists.

  • Menu with advanced commands to open the comparison in a new, non-modal window, to flag the currently compared profile for later review, and to copy existing or new cast or crew as XML to the clipboard.

  • Extended info about cover images (dimensions, file size).

  • Toggle between displaying cover images in original size or scaled to fit into the window.

  • Links to Contributors and Contribution Notes.

  • New Features in Version 1.2

  • Support for DVD Profiler 3.5.0 and 3.5.1.

  • Selective update of front or back cover scans. No need to accept both, if you only need one of them.

  • Supports image-only comparisons, including extended image info and selective update.

  • Supports Add DVD preview comparisons the same way as Update previews.

  • A little known feature of DVD Profiler's Add DVD dialog allows you to flag two profiles and preview them side by side.
  • New command Copy Existing Custom Crew allows you to copy your custom crew entries to the clipboard before accepting a crew update and append them to your profile afterwards. If the existing crew contains dividers (e.g. episode dividers), dividers preceding a custom crew entry are included in the copied data to make manual merging easier.

  • Requirements

  • DVD Profiler 3.5.0 or 3.5.1.

  • Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista.

  • Version History

  • v1.2.1: Support for DVD Profiler 3.5.1.

  • v1.2.0: Support for DVD Profiler 3.5.0 and various enhancements. See detailed list above.

  • v1.1.0: Various enhancements.

  • v1.0.1: Support for DVD Profiler 3.1.

  • v1.0.0: Created.

  • Download at http://www.geocities.com/goodguy_dvdpro/

Please note that this is now a 30-day trial version, which requires registration after the trial period has expired.

I haven't had a chance to try using it yet, but had a minor problem(?) on the install.  Step 6, quoted below, opens in the Layout directory under My Documents on C: drive, but the file is in the directory I extracted it into.  Had to navigate to that point, and then everything finished as described in your setup.

    6. On the File menu, click Import from Layout, then open the file PCP.dpl, which is amongst the files you have unpacked in the first step.

    This is the expected behavior.
The layout file only serves as a source for the preview skin, it is not a real layout and therefore not installed in the layout directory. I would prefer the plugin to be able to add a skin (aka HTML section) to the currently used layout by itself, but unfortunately there is no way to do that.

So the file PCP.dpl is not needed anymore after installation??
I extracted the files in a temp folder, can I delete that?

The file PCP.dpl is indeed no longer needed after you have imported the preview skin. But you should then explicitly save your layout with the new skin included.

As for the temp folder, I hope you didn't run the install there. The plugin is registered at its current location, it is not copied to some DVDPro directory. That's why it says to extract them to a dedicated folder in the install steps.

Also, all the files are very small - you wouldn't waste a lot of space by keeping them.

Installed and upon first try the plugin told me that I needed build 1136 or higher. I still had 1134 installed

After correcting above problem, including uninstalling and installing the plugin, I get this when trying to use it:

    Initializing...

OK, that makes sense.  But, you should note in the installation instructions that you have to navigate to it.  I thought at first I'd done something wrong.  I can see where someone who is less technically inclined might really get confused.

Otherwise, this is a GREAT plug-in!  I just used it and it cut the processing time in half, easily.  Going through each title one at a time is still problematic, but that isn't your fault.  Excellent job.  Ken should build this into Profiler as a standard default plug-in.

No harm done. I can keep the folder. I download all DVD Profiler related stuff in one place. However, it might be a good idea to copy the dll-files first to \Program Files\DVD Profiler\Plugins, since there is a folder for plugins already by default. And then register them there.

Good work!  I think the first dozen or so times the different look will surprise me, but I'm glad to have the added functionality.

Just tried it, and it's great! Unfortunately, I had only 1 changed profile today, but so far, it looks great!

I'm just puzzled by the choice of putting the Sort Title at the top. I realize it is part of the title group of data, but it's pretty much useless to have it there, as it is personalization data which doesn't change with the online.

I just confirmed my suspicion... It's because I am a User. Temporarily adding the account to the Administrator group fixed that problem, well, temporarily.

What can I change to be able to use the Plugin as User...? (Adding permission to a specific file or folder is not a problem, using my computer is...) Even though the dll is not copied there, does the plugin save temporary files in the plugin folder...?

The sort title is displayed only if the new profile contains changes to "real" title fields and if the new sort title is different, too. This is just a reminder that you may have to change the sort title when accepting a title change.

The plugin doesn't require admin rights, I specifically tested it with a user account. It does not create or write to any files, nor does it tamper with any system stuff that depends on security privileges. Unfortunately, I have no idea what could cause this problem on your system.

After attempting to research the error, I entirely understand why ylou don't have an idea. All pages that Google came up with either refer to a problem with Windows Update or Exchange.

Weird to me is that, despite what you mentioned, it does work if I use it as Administrator...

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, to no avail. I'll give it a rest for now and try again some other time. (I did see it shortly when being logged in as Admin and it sure looked great. I really would like to get this to work.
