i have 13 of these and they hold over 900 DVD's

i'm a renter, so it's real easy to move them to my next home, just wrap them in plastic wrap, and the DVD's want fall out. i also group them by genre, so if they don't all fit into a room, i can put different genres in different rooms and always know where to find a movie.

I'd need 33 of those for my collection...I'd need another apartment just for my collection .

Here's my shelving at the moment for a collection of approx. 1000 (1145 including childprofiles / individual movies in box-sets). Five three-shelf units there with toplayers serving as fourth shelves for box-sets. The box-sets are mostly double- or triple stacked. Each of the closed shelves holds 45 regular-sized keep cases. I have one more of these units, so I won't be running out of space that soon.

Next to these is one five-shelf unit, with each closed shelf holding 60 regular-sized keep cases, and again the top-layer keeping some box-sets. The units are just about the most inexpensive you can find around here...

I will be buying a HDTV and blu-ray player in the late summer or in the fall, and I have already prepared myself with two (2) blu-ray releases there on the very top of the five-shelf unit ("Ratatouille" and "2001: Space Odyssey")

They are Sennheiser HDR-115, pretty average, basic model judging by the price (I must have paid around 50-70 Euros for it about 3 years ago). Some hissing noise constantly in the background, interference in the fm I guess - don't know if the fault is in the headset or the apartment and location of TV, PC etc... - otherwise sound quality is OK. I only use them when moving about... I have better (wired) headphones for main use.

Have you found sleeve's that are specifically for DVD's? I've been trying to find a DVD case that would store both the discs and the covers, but havent found any, so maby should think of just storing them separatedly. Wouldnt really store my DVD's there though, but some games and other stuff.

I have bought some of these:
http://www.billigmedien.de/?ref=rncs&page=products&product_id=215

http://www.dvd4u.dk/product.asp?product=5942&sub=124&page=1

It holds both DVD and Cover. There's room for 2 Discs.

I assume you all have seen the "spinner towers" that are available........well I just custom ordered one from a furniture maker here.  It will be about 30"x30"x72" tall and hold in the neighborhood of 1250-1500 DVD's and rotate on bearings.  He told me that he could make it rotate via remote control for another $250, but that just sounded like something to break to me.  Anyway,  I will post pics when it is completed and loaded up!!

Wow.. This looks great. Now I need to find a way to put something like that in my appartment (roughly 50m2).
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

For those looking for a really cheap method for large storage, I saw this idea on a blog.  I'm planning to modify it to build several rows to hold my collection, rather than the hodge-podge of wall units and bookcases I have right now.

Ok, here is the commercially available product that I am having built.  It's going to be rosewood with cherry blossom carvings up the sides.  8 shelves per side counting the bottom with each shelf 20 inches long and 6 inches deep.  Total approximate dimensions are 28x28x74.  Capacity will be 1100 standard size Amaray cases.  Not bad for 5.5 square feet of floorspace.  Cost came to $900 delivered, but its going to take 4 months   If I am pleased with it (and im not sure how I won't be), I will probably have him make another identical one and put them on each side of the TV.

Just put it together and instead of looking like above, it's really small. I wonder how I ever going to get 200 DVD's in it.
