I'm sure all of us who have extensive movie collections have at least a couple of these annoying discs.. eBay occasionally sends us that which we werent expecting.  I would like to be able to add a movie to the DB and mark it as a bootleg so that I can...

A) Avoid tainting the contributed movies collection with this fodder
B) Quickly view which movies I need to replace
C) Keep these privately unpublished.  I dont need the MPAA calling me because a movie I haven't yet replaced was in my published online list of movies.

Now, I wanted to get this out before you pass judgement on me.  I am not bootlegging movies, but with a collection of over 2k DVDs, I probably have about 2 dozen that are bootlegs that I need to replace, when time permits.

Odd...I have nearly 2k titles and not one of them is a bootleg.

You can add them to your local database and use Tags to identify them as bootlegs...just don't contribute them to the online database.

i have to agree - I am at just over 1000 titles and I don't have any of these... and as 8ball stated, you can add them manually and tag them as such... that is more then enough.

It was not a really key feature req, just wanted to mention it.. For now, I just didnt add those titles to my collection and set them aside on my shelf so that I will look at them every day until I replace them.

If you don't want them to show up in your online collection, you can always set them as adult content and then apply the adult content filter for your collection.  That way they're still in your local database, you can still have your collection online, but these won't show up.  Unfortunately it will also hide some of your legitimate releases.

As for the whole having grabbed a few bootlegs, I guess certain tastes (in my experience generally Asian movies and anime) attract bootlegs more readily, and it can sometimes be hard to find legit releases/identify the fakes.

I have bought a few DVD's that I found out that were either pirate/ bootleg , or illegal counterfeits.. such as

'Alfred Hitchcock's The  Legend Begins' .. ( upc 683904200310) -Millcreek,  and they are in the data base ., so chzdhippt has a legitimate Request ..

I think that's just a collection of his public domain movies.

Well, I do not have 2k in movies but I do have nearly 1k (8 something at last look)  Since I have started collecting I have purchased 4 bootlegs.  Every one was returned to the seller, a report made to Ebay, and a real disc or my money sent to me.  I have to agree with Max, there is no reason you should have these films.  Also another piece of friendly advice, if you are worried about getting bootlegs from Ebay stop buying there, that is what I did.  Just my 2 cents.

IMO is this topic is against the forum guidelines and should be locked.

I confess that I have a couple of questionable DVDs bought on eBay, at least one of which I now know to be a bootleg (Red Skies of Montana) recorded from cable TV.

I don't download movies, and I don't buy DVDs that I know to be bootlegs.

If I had more bootlegs that I could keep track of in my head, I would probably feel that I needed to rethink my buying strategy...

I have no bootlegs that I am aware of but I regulary buy on movie exchanges (due to german laws). I am quite sure that all my DVDs are legit but I wouldn't swear an oath on it.

as others have said - this should remian local only. And don't contribute since 'why would you need to'?

And invelos can't do anything to single these out since it would probably be seen as condoning piracy (which obviously they don't).

If you are worried about accidentally contributing these discs to the database then make them manual contributions - they they can't be uploaded to the database.  (They can still appear in your online collection)

(And I don't have any boots).
