Is it okay to use two dividers if the information exceeds the space allowed for the divider?  That seems to make more sense than abbreviating or truncating the title.  I don't see anything in the rules that would preclude using a second divider to continue the episode title.

I personally do not like the look of it... but I don't see anything in the rules against it.

And I think that would be better then what I voted no to earlier today... someone leaving off the numbering all together. (And they still had to use 2 dividers on some titles)... Rules state that dividers is to use numbering... that I see no way out of.

I agree with Pete. Esthetically it looks awful, personally it looks so bad I am allwoing long titles to shortened and waiting for a longer field length.

That is the way I been doing it as well. We have the request in for longer field... so hopefully we will have it on the next version.

Agree. It may be okay by the rules to use two dividers and I wouldn't give a "NO"-vote when someone uses them, but personally I'll never do it.

Accepted as workaround as long as no longer field length is provided!

Correct and because of that relative to the Rules, most of us will not vote NO to someone who does, but you won't find me doing it, I played with the idea and didn't like the way it looked, so I don't, I won't and i am waiting for longer fields, and that is also OK

This is clearly a subjective area -- maybe that's why it isn't discussed in the rules.  While you guys don't like the look of it, I prefer the look of it to a title with abbreviations or one that is truncated.  There are relatively few titles which don't fit the space provided, at least in those titles I have been doing profiles for.

I'm not changing someone else's title to a 2-line divider and won't vote NO to a contribution which uses abbreviations/truncations -- unless there is something else wrong with the cast/crew list (like the contribution Addicted mentioned which didn't include the episode numbers as required by the rules).  I just think it looks neater with the title on 2 lines -- since that way you can control where the title wraps -- which you won't be able to do when we do (and I hope we do) get longer divider fields.

When you look at the voting page, long titles are automatically scrolled anyway -- to fit the two column format.  But, at least on my two monitors (home and work) the second line that results isn't very legible.  If you have 2 actual lines, you can easily read both.

But if people really feel strongly about this, I'll reconsider my contributions in the future.  As I said, I've rarely seen the necessity when I'm doing a profile.

It seems to me it's the lesser evil.

just completed "The Adams Chronicles", most of the titles were very long.
I just let them end in where they ended, even in the middle of a word.
After all if episode or chapter titles, in this case are that long, it will unique enough to identify them and that is the purpose, is it not?
I've tried both ways.

This comment made me shiver a little... The rules are basically a set od "dos", with a few "don'ts". If we use such argument to allow something into the database, then either there'll be a lot unwanted stuff coming because "the rules don't forbid it" or the rules need to be made much longer to cover all those situation...

Just like Pete and the others, I totaly agree with this. Basically: 1 episode divider per 1 episode.

I completely agree, also considering the semantics of the database.
