Just want to get so confirmation about the Credit Lookup-Tool

Do we got by number of Titles or Profiles when determining a common name, i thought it was Titles but have seen some profile changes lately only quoting/using the Profile count.

The Rules say
Quote:
To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool.

but does not really give any guidance about Titles/Profiles (maybe this needs to be added)

Personally, I always use the number of titles.

Other: not the total number of titles, but the total number of titles minus translated variants.

Without a ruling from Ken whatever is selected here won't matter to the hardliners on either side.

Titles is probably a better option but it is much more difficult to achieve.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

But wouldn't removing "translated variants" also effect the Profiles count so if you remove them from the Title count you also remove them from the Profile count? or am i missing something.

To me, the best option would be the number of original titles. As it stands now, original titles are not always easy to identify, as DVD titles may vary considerably (across languages, editions, localities etc.).

I would suggest Titles.

Just because "The Dark Knight" was released in 60 countries under 150 different EAN/UPC's (yes I know exaggerated numbers  )...but it was only made once (until they make a re-make)

I ment the total number of distinct titles minus translated variants. The number of profiles has no meaning for a common name. It just shows how many times it's used in profiles not in movies.

Sounds like you and I want the same thing, Martin. We just use different terminology.

Yes, but you want an option which does not exist yet.

I do personally agree:  the number of original titles is more relevant. But, like you and others said, it's not always easy to identify. Besides, it makes contributing a more difficult task than it already is. The mere CLT numbers would not be enough, but you would be supposed to browse and check each and every credit, sometimes hundreds of them, in order to determine original and localized versions, count them, subtract translated titles...
Hmmm...  Correct, but complex.
More importantly, there is not even a clear rule on that, so no matter how accurate your research, there will always be disputes and ping-pongs.

Not surprisingly, most users just ignore the quest for the "Common Name" and just contribute non-linking credited names.

Well, if the CLT were to display the Original Title field as well (and do the count of Original Titles), we might be a step closer...

Good thinking

But now the CLT doesn't even show Original Titles, if I'm not mistaken.

It should not be too hard to build the CLT on original titles instead of titles I assume.

I would agree with you. One problem, though, is that there are profiles with localized titles but with an empty Original Title field.
