IMHO especially on contribution forum issues ...
1) I think Ken should step in and make a ruling on the subject.
2) Then lock the string down, preferably before it goes over a couple of pages. By then most should be able to state their opinion on the subject. Usually after a few pages the string has developed into a pissing contest with the only result, bruised egos.
3) Before you submit either opening statement or your reply compose it off forum and make sure you have all you want to say on the matter it. Then let it go at that. By now you all should know your not going to change any body's mind.

I have not been posting here as of late given how much a certain user made a complete joke out of a thread i made which a lot of people agreed the subject was valid.

While he is part of this site i can't see any point trying to talk about anything to do with profiler as he will always comes in with his wall wall of carefully constructed language made to look constructive to the topic at hand yet in fact is detrimental and the loss of this user is a result of that.

Very sad to see the next one leave

I hope you will reconsider your decision.

What I do not get is the following:
If I were offended by someone, why not put this person simply on ignore and enjoy all others here ?

cheers

Really sorry to see you leave, Matthias. You, your hard work and your great tools will be missed!

Oh, and I fully agree with Srehtims.

Take care,

I would guess it is as much a reaction to one user's behaviour as that to the policy of the people "in charge". And that I can understand; if he feels that one user here is behaving inappropriately and offensively, AND that Ken is not doing anything about it, I can understand his decision for not having ANYTHING to do with the online community of this program anymore - even if we have here people he might "enjoy".

And I'm not taking any bias here, I haven't seen the threads this might be connected with.

Really sorry to see you go goodguy. You're a "voice of reason" that I will surely miss... I understand your reasoning though and hope you will end up coming back eventually...

So good-bye goodguy. Machs gut.

If the problem is truly just one user, I don't understand why people cannot use the "Block" feature rather than creating threads like this and storming out of the forum.

If enough people decide to block the same person, eventually he'll have no one to argue with and the pertinent discussions can continue uninterrupted.

Now I am sad.  Please reconsider Matthias.  Just block him.  Your plugins are most helpful.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

That's like saying my engine is making a funny noise so I'm just going to turn the radio up louder.  It is an effective method of masking the noise, but ignoring the problem as opposed to fixing it might not be the best idea.

Blocking posts is an effective way to hide some of the noise.  But if there's a deep down problem, it needs more corrective action than simply ignoring it.  The fact that we're having parts falling off our car left and right tells me that it's time to visit a mechanic and have the problem fixed.

After witnessing the latest unchecked amok run of skipnet50/Dr. Pavlov/Woola/ Prof. Kingsfield in this thread, I have finally decided that I don't want to play here anymore.

Frankly, it escapes me why a single user is allowed to continuously poison the atmosphere in these forums. Free speech is one thing, but that is more like letting a drunkard running around in a pub and permanently harassing the guests. I don't need that. If the owner is unwilling to take care of it, I go to another pub. It is as simple as that.

My website goodguy's DVD Profiler Tools will remain active for a few weeks and I will provide means for existing customers of Profile Comparison Plus to get an updated version of the plugin once DVD Profiler 3.6 goes final.

Bye.

I fully understand you, sorry to see you leave. However, what I don't understand is the unwillingness of the owner of the pub to do anything against it. How much more must happen?

Because that is not Goodguy's M.O.  I am very sorry to add to this pissing contest but I am afraid I must.  I blocked goodguy years ago because of just how nasty he can be.  Look at some of his older posts.  Goodguy, is not always nor usually a good guy.  He gets away with his garbage because some people enjoy his plugins.  The truth of the matter is this place is a circus, it was even when it was Intervocative.  And Skip is not the person who was whined about.  So the complaints came about subject matter, politics and the likes.  There have always been certain people here with the, "I am taking my toys and going home mentality."  To them I say good riddance and goody-bye to bad rubbish.

While I am sorry to see GoodGuy leave, I have to agree with The Lord's comment about "taking my toys and going home mentality."

Most of the people posting here act as if Skip were the only one who is rude and nasty.  Don't begin to pretend that Skip is the only person to behave badly (in your opinion) or that he is always the instigator of any disputes.  That is simply a lie.  There are people, like Surfeur and others, who go out of their way to jump into a thread in order to disrespect Skip.  They have gone on to start topics specifically as a means of criticizing one person (Skip).

This is not to say I think Skip is innocent of any charges and only reacts when he is attacked.  But it's become clear to me over many years of visiting these forums that there are people out there who are every bit as mean spirited and nasty as they accuse Skip of being.  And, even though I appreciate and support Good Guy's contributions to the plugins he's put a lot of time and care into, I do remember that he can be just as nasty as anybody when he's upset.

And Skip's not the only one who the moderators don't act against.  My impression is that they seldom censure (or censor) anyone.

These arguments are all so childish.  And both sides are accusing the other of making the first strike.  There are a lot of people here, not just Skip, who should be ashamed of themselves and their childish behavior.

I think if the moderators closed topics sooner before it begins to degenerate it can avoid lot of issues... It's only my personal opinion but allow continuing people to "fight" them isn't a good thing in a forum. As soon as we see the topic degenerates they should close it...

Honestly, this would not work because the person(s) who are either being rude or are hijacking the thread aren't really being punished for their action(s).

What needs to be done is suspension of forum privileges in an ascending rate of time.

1st offense - Written warning by PM from a moderator or Ken.
2nd offense - Suspension of posting privilege for 3 days
3rd offense - Suspension of posting privilege for 14 days
4th offense - Suspension of posting privilege for 60 days
5th offense - permanent banning from forum.

Most people would get the hint after the the third offense, but a true troll would need the further punishment to eradicate.
