Franka Potente, on the other hand, was in a Bourne film.

I'm on the fence for situations like that.

For one, I'm not keen on conditionals which this would introduce.
Secondly, how far back would you allow someone to be given an uncredited, archive footage role? - Hypothetical situation, if in the next Star Trek film they use a sequence of James Doohan from The Wrath of Khan. Would you (collective) add him? What about a remake of Ben Hur with footage from the original? - Just something to think about.

As I say, I'm not decided on this one yet so, convince me!

In the Bourne Ultimatum (Bourne 3) Frank Potente has about a minute of screen time.

I submitted her Uncredited a year ago.  It wasn't even a hard decision because

a) like the Martian said, she's been in prior Bourne casts
b) her footage was critical to forwarding the story along
c) while some images were from the prior films, some shots i hadn't seen in the prior films.  Likely filmed for the first two and never used, but certainly new to the film series.

Doesn't even deserve to be part of the archival discussion IMHO.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Never having seen any of the Bourne films, I can only use your information.

In that situation I probably would give an uncredited role. I think for the simple reason that new, previously unused footage was used. Unless it's stated otherwise, there's no reason to say that they didn't film that sequence specifically for that film. It's not unheard of to film sequences from a later film while you have the necessary people in the right location.

This seems pretty overwhelming 10+ to 1 for the ban

Is there a specific wording that can be presented for addition into the rules?

My personal definition of "archive footage" does not include clips from other films/TV series.  It is typically news reel footage.

I'm not saying it's hard and fast, but, including footage from any prior movie or TV show would not be considered "archived footage" by me.

I think the first thing we should hear about is why the original prohibition was lifted, Ken did so for a reason.

My 2 cents, these credits annoy me and make roles and credits for people who never even dreamed of acting. If someone were to film me walking across the street and somehow that gets into a movie, did I act in the movie? No, I was walking across the street minding my own and don't deserve a credit (I'd say different to the SAG though, try and get me a card and a Playboy Mansion invite! ).

I guess politicians are always acting though, so keep them!

The problem I have with that definition is that I wouldn't dream of giving an uncredited appearance if in a film/TV series the characters are watching a different film/TV series as they're completely unrelated.

A lot of documentaries make extensive use of this sort of footage. This leaves out abotu half the peopel featured in When We Left Earth, for example.

I personally don't think documentaries have any cast but that's a matter for a different thread!

Aren't they typically credited on screen?

People in documentaries tend to be credited on-screen or named by a narrator, but isn't there some dispute as to whether this counts?

Why wouldn't it?  They're credited.  Everyone credited is in.

How is it different than if someone is watching the news in a movie and the anchor mentions JFK, who is shown on their TV? Is that crediting JFK?
