According to this post by Ken we really don't have to provide documentation for accepted/approved Birth Years.

Problem is that voters have no idea what birth years are accepted or brand new. And if the contributor makes no note of it we are likely to ask for proof that it's needed.

So I would like to see color coding added to all birth years.

Perhaps green for already accepted/approved birth years
and
red for brand new birth years.

I think red would really catch most peoples eyes and make us notice that birth year in the contribution.

Remember that contributors may also have no idea that accepted birth years are being propagated. No box means no signal, therefore no explanation in the contribution notes.

Actually, the only BYs that need to be shown in the comparison windows, are the new ones. Color coded or not.

And those would be highlighted Green.

But that's not how the current system works. Any new BY that is new to that profile is highlighted, and thus confusion can result.

If all new Birth Years were highlighted in red, then we the voters would see this as being a new birth year and that if the notes are lacking than we can alert the contributor to this.

That's not true. Occasionally, people submit the birth year of person A one to a cast/crew entry of person B, and this is best spotted and fixed before a contribution is approved. As such, we need to be able to see each and every birth year, even if they're accepted. That it's a valid/accepted birth year doesn't necessarily mean it's attached to the right credit.

But simply displaying the addition of an accepted birth year in green and that of a new birth year in red would be helpful indeed.

Agreed
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

What about Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson etc. actors who have accepted BYs, even they don't need one. They would show green also.

It would be nice to see to see some kind of "Consistency Check" for contributions.
But as long as Invelos doesn't do a wholesale removal of unneeded and/or incorrect birthyears in the maindatabase this is not going to happen.

There is a way to remove them from the main database and that is to delete them from you local and contribute the updated cast/crew list and this will help to remove the unrequired BY's. The other problem comes with the headshots database as I think that some come from there.

In theory a good idea.
The problems are:
a) that with the next profile I download that has this cast/crew member the BY may reappear in my local.

b) as already pointed out by Kulju, when an unneeded BY, that once got accepted, gets uploaded again it's up to the voters to notice this error. This may work most of the times, but not always. Even worse: it is even more likely that the error passes unnoticed the better the reputation of the contributor is.

They actually did this once...they deleted everything that wasn't listed in the BY thread.  As you can see by the number of incorrect BYs that are in the system, many have snuck back in.

This will not remove them from the main database.  All this does is remove it from the profile that was uploaded.  The actual entry, the name with the BY, is still in the actor/crew database.  The only person that can remove invalid BYs from the database is Ken.
