Can't update successfully- does the Android version not support large databases?

I have had no luck updating my database via the DVD Profiler PC application to a Samsung Galaxy S4.  I'm trying to install the database to a 64GB micro sd card installed in the phone. Whenever I try to update the database, the android app either reports a connection error while updating the profiles or the DVD Profiler application on the phone crashes.  I never even get to the image updates.

I've been using the IOS version of DVD Profiler for some time and have had no issues, but I recently switched to the Android version and cannot get a successfully completed update.

I've taken several troubleshooting steps with no success:
(1)  Port forwarding and static IP address on my PC are set up correctly, and I doubt it's a connection issue because I continue to update from the same database successfully on my IOS devices.
(2)  I've uninstalled and re installed the DVD Profiler android app several times.
(3)  I have deleted the DVD Profiler folder on the SD card before re-installing, to remove any remnants from the failed updates, but it makes no difference.
(4)  I've run the database repair utility on my PC based DVD Profiler database to be sure it's not an issue with the database that I'm trying to transfer to the phone.

None of this has made any difference.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

By large database you mean over 9000 titles?

It could be a connection issue since no two devices are the same in terms of WiFi performance.  I currently have about 2500 titles and the initial download took about ~2 hours.  So with 9000+ titles I'd estimate it may take upwards of 8+ hours for the initial load.  Is your device turning of the WiFi during that time?  When downloading the data, how long does it go before running into a connection error?

Check the Energy Saving settings of your device.
Some devices turn off WiFi too when switching off the screen.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

If this does turn out to be the issue, Ken should be able to implement a fix and prevent the WiFi from being turned off while the device is syncing.

For databases as large as Peacefrog's this would be a good reason to have USB syncing.

i did say large database

Yes, I realize the initial update will take quite some time given the size of the database, but I've done this successfully on both an iPhone and an Ipad several times with the identical wi-fi setup and database.  The only variable  is the galaxy s4 and the android app.  On the android app, I get a connection error or the app itself crashes within 5-10 minutes of starting the sync.  I may just keep trying as notwithstanding the constant crashes, each attempt seems to add more profiles.

Thanks- the screen stays on as long as it seems to be updating properly.  It's not until it crashes or I get a connection error that the screen will then turn off, but I guess it could be related to wifi powersaving.

What kind of signal strength are you getting on your Android device?  Is your PC going to sleep or hibernating at any point during the sync?  Might want to check to make sure the PC isn't cutting the connection after a period of time.

DVD Profiler for Android V1.0.1 build 29
Samsung Galaxy S3 / Android 4.1.2
PC WiFi Upload / 64GB micro sdxc card class 10 for db.

There seems to be several topics about problems with initial update...

I have 5000+ profiles in my database. It took about five hours to make an initial update. There was several crashes during the update process and I have to restart updating five times.

The initial download is really painfull, but after you have managed to do it the sw works quite fine. Five hours and five crashes just does not sound very nice and you are wondering if you are doing something wrong or there is something wrong in your system.

It would be nice to know what is the normal and expected time for initial download?

Thanks for sharing.  I ended up with a similar, but worse experience.  I had about 15-20 crashes (no more connection issues though).  Each failed update made incremental progress though.  Interestingly, once the profiles were in place, I didn't have a single crash while transferring the profile images even though, at least from a size perspective, there was a lot more data to transfer.  It appears that whatever the issue was, it was tied to the profiles. Now that the initial update has been completed, subsequent updates have worked without any crashes.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments!  They were helpful in getting things up and running.

I also had many crashes while trying to update.. mine seemed to of been related to email or facebook updates being pushed to the device during the update and really no way to turn off these notices in Android V3.2 that I can find in my system settings.

Update: I have been trying to install on my Android 4.01 tablet.. the software installed and the menu issues that I had on my 3.2 tablet are now gone.. but I keep crashing after reading local data base. after about 15 hours the profiles sync'ed but I could not get the images to sync at all and ended up doing a manual copy of the images over and the tablet will now display.. so I went and added a single disc to my PC and tried to sync to the PC and after the tablet reads its local data base A-DVDP shuts down.. the PC says that the device is connected to the PC??

That's a good observation.  Since the app runs in the foreground it's sensitive to other processes.  Any time another process/app take focus then the DVD Profiler app stops the update.  Hopefully, ken can improve or fix this behavior.  Instead of cancelling an update it could pause and wait for those other tasks/processes to complete and then continue with the update.

I down loaded the app and tried several times to download my collection from my PC. I have about 3400 titles it's been updating now for over 10 hours and seems to be frozen on updating images.

The download process is a pain in the ass.

Seriously, wouldn't it be much easier to write a conversion plugin for the desktop application? The Profiler could write an export database which could be put on the phone memory card via usb and then the phone app only had to open it or read the entries instead of trying it over and over and over again with 3G, burning bandwidthand traffic on both sides?

It's simply not working. I will try it again, when it is ready.
I doubt that it is a good idea to sell it while a main function is worse than buggy.

I haven't tried this myself but wouldn't it be possible to use the phone as a wifi hotspot and simply connect the PC to it?

don't use 3G - use wifi to connect to your home router..

I only have 1200 items in my collection but I cannot get my database updated. Every time I try, it gets to copying profiles, then crashes the app. I get the message that "Unfortunately. DVD Profiler has stopped". Then I click "OK" and the app goes away.

Phone is Razor HD.
Just tried uninstalling and re-installing.
running the update over WIFI.

Have yet to see a fix for this. Any ideas would be great.
