The list is outdated now based on 3.5 standards and therefore I've removed it.

Over the past couple of months, I've sent numerous PMs and "contact us" messages to Invelos requesting that this thread be unpinned. So far, no response.

If someone wants to start up a revised studio list that is compatible with 3.5, just let me know and I'll forward the old studio data to you. Hopefully then Invelos will act to unpin this thread and pin your new thread.

I can add filters to the acceptance process that automatically convert incorrect names into correct names.  Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Very cool. Need to go over this list in case some of the names listed as 'incorrect' might actually exist 'as credited' though.    But other than that...

Suggestion to make it clearer to see what is the difference between acceptable and Not acceptable?

Distribution

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Columbia TriStar Home Video (original designation for this distribution division, use as necessary, for example ORIGINAL release of 'Sleepless in Seattle')
Gaumont Buena Vista International (France)

Not acceptable

Columbia
Tristar
Tristar Pictures
Columbia/Tristar
Columbia/TriStar
Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment

The only difference I can see is Tristar and TriStar. Is that all it would take?
It's gonna be diffcult to follow these guidelines, since when first begun to write this I couldn't see any difference between those two
It would be nice if these were more clear. Now it's just difficult to see the difference between them.

And I forgot to say thank you for the one(s) who have compiled this list.

To do an actual conversion, I need a "wrong" and corresponding "right".  e.g.

"Studio X" should be "The Great Studio X".

If "Studio X" should sometimes be "The Awesome Studio X", then a direct conversion won't work.  So, let's start small with a list of studios with clear wrongs and clear corresponding rights that we can build consensus on.

As an aside, we can also build a separate list of wrongs that I can add errors for during the contribution submission if we can't decide on a conversion rule for some of the studios.

You clearly missed my point. The difference of a s and S is sometimes unclear, especially when there is such a big post as the first post here is. I suggest to make it a bit easier to detect the difference. Such as using bold, italic or underlined for the differences

Well I can agree with that, pompel. But your first line referred to it as an error, when it is not. I do agree that what you suggest would make it clearer.

I found a great resource for Korean film companies for those interested.

So what are we throwing out of studio names for the purposes of DVDP? Ltd., Co. country indicators? Anything else? Also, are we spelling everything out now that V3.0 supports longer string for studio names?

Finally with only 3 spaces for studios, what are our priorities? How important are copyright holders? My last recollection was in the order of importance

1. Original film releasing studio
2. Original film production studio
3. DVD production studio

Where does the copyright holding studio go?
What do we do about co-releases or co-productions? Which studios take precedence in feeding these three boxes?

Copyright Holders. I have no idea how to write a Rule for. I think judgement is required, our interest is Production Studios, many time the Copyright Holder, such as Turner Entertainment, is just that a Copyright HOLDER and had absolutely no involvement in the film's Production.
