I can add filters to the acceptance process that automatically convert incorrect names into correct names.  Thoughts?

EXCELLENT idea (IMO)

Could not see Momentum Pictures, or the studio canal choices in the listings - was there a seperate thread on these at IVS forums?

Could we also have a filter that stops any studio added with an ending of...
Production
or
Film
or
Picture

For example, these are when people see on the back of covers something like a Malpaso production, and then add the studio as Malpaso Productions.

Of course when it is plural, Productions,Films or Pictures after the studio name, it is quite often correct.

I would not expect this thread anymore tha it did at IVS to in any way even try to be comprehenseive, ever, there are simply too many Studios and Production Companies out there and they are constantly changing. I tried to focus on the major data, which I think is the best way to go.

What, so you are saying that when it's Malpaso Production, it's a mistake, but when it says Malpaso Productions, it's correct?

If a film is credited as a Malpaso production.

Then to me the studio name should be Malpaso.

It was an example

Similarly, when I see Hell's Kitchen film, to me the studio name entered should be Hell's Kitchen, not Hell's Kitchen Film.

When we see an opening credit of A Universal Pictures production...
We don't list it as 'Universal Pictures Production', it is 'Universal Pictures'.

Are there any production companies/studios that names actually end in a singular such as Film, Production or Picture? I skimmed through my edit studios and couldn't find any legitimate ones. There are many of course that end in the plural.

What are peoples thoughts on dropping the redundant locality info off the end of the studios:

eg Paramount Home Entertainment (UK) or Anchor Bay Entertainment UK

It just seems to create uneccesary variants of the same studio.

I don't know about paramount uk but anchor bay uk releases different product from anchor bay usa and i have stuff from both and like the distinction to be obvious.

by the bye

what is the corrent version for: American International or with: Productions or with: Pictures  ?

Bump.  Any thoughts on some easy filters to add to cut down on clearly incorrect studios?

Rules say to list:
• Theatrical Release Studio(s)
• Production Company(s)
• DVD Distribution studio(s) if there is room available.

Not had any reaction on my suggestion to auto-filter any studio that is added with a singular ending of Production, Film or Picture? As previously said, in the 'acceptable' studio list I could not find any instances of these. However in the database there are lots of instances of these being incorrectly recorded.

Also, are you proposing that any studio that has been identified as incorrect, eg Disney dvd, Walt disney home entertainment etc, would automatically be excluded from a contribution?

I agree...partially.  As an example...'Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions' has a credit of "A Seraphim Production".  The actual name of the production company is 'Seraphim Films'.  I would like to be able to enter that information...with proper documentation...as I think just 'Seraphim' looks silly.  But that is just me.

Do you want examples of studio names that are often entered incorrectly along with the incorrect names used?  If yes, I can give you several.

I believe that these should be added to the Columbia section:

CORRECT:
Columbia Music Video
Sony Music Entertainment Inc.

This is the wording on the packaging for all of Columbia/Sony's music video DVDs.

Except it should be Sony Music Entertainment (no "Inc." since we drop the corporate indicators).
