| Posted: | | | | I think Gavin's got it right.
The text on the BBFC website is:
"12A – Suitable for 12 years and over. No-one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video or DVD. Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the accompanying or supervising adult."
I think it could have been worded better, it took me a few minutes to work out what it actually means! | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

| Posted: | | | | I make a correction to my previous list of ratings after I noticed that it would also be possible to include ratings before and after a change in laws. Here it is: Quote: <Locality Description="Finland" ID="16">
<Ratings Description="Vanhat ikärajat"> // Ratings for DVDs released before the year 2001 <Rating Name="S/T" Description="Sallittu kaikenikäisille" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="S/T 6" Description="Suositusikäraja 6 vuotta" Age="6"/> <Rating Name="S/T 8" Description="Suositusikäraja 8 vuotta" Age="8"/> <Rating Name="S/T 10" Description="Suositusikäraja 10 vuotta" Age="10"/> <Rating Name="S/T 12" Description="Suositusikäraja 12 vuotta" Age="12"/> <Rating Name="S/T 14" Description="Suositusikäraja 14 vuotta" Age="14"/> <Rating Name="K/F 16" Description="Kielletty alle 16-vuotiailta" Age="16"/> </Ratings>
<Ratings Description="Uudet ikärajat"> // Ratings for DVDs released 2001 and later <Rating Name="3" Sallittu kaikenikäisille" Age="1"/> <Rating Name="7" Description="Kielletty alle 7-vuotiailta" Age="7"/> <Rating Name="11" Description="Kielletty alle 11-vuotiailta" Age="11"/> <Rating Name="13" Description="Kielletty alle 13-vuotiailta" Age="13"/> <Rating Name="15" Description="Kielletty alle 15-vuotiailta" Age="15"/> <Rating Name="18" Description="Kielletty alle 18-vuotiailta" Age="18"/>
</Ratings>
</Locality>
Link to current ratingsThere is still question should we make a distinction between these ratings: "Sallittu kaiken ikäisille" (For all ages) and "Tarkastamaton, sallittu kaiken ikäisille" (Unclassified, for all ages) and "Kielletty alle 18-vuotiailta" (Only for persons over 18 years) and "Tarkastamaton, kielletty alle 18-vuotiailta" (Unclassified, only for persons over 18 years) Please, opinions other Finnish users! | | | Last edited: by Jykke |

Quote: Ken, do you need the descriptions in English or can they be in the language of the locality? Good question! They should be in the language of the locality. ...and I was just about to give you the list for Taiwan. Well, I'll give you the English version, per Wikipedia, anyway: General audiences category (???(?)) - General audiences may all view.Protected category (???(?)) - Children under 6 years old must not view. Children aged at least 6 but less than 12 require guidance of accompanying parents, teachers, or adult relatives to view.Parental guidance category (???(?)) - Children under 12 years old must not view. People aged at least 12 but less than 18 require attentive guidance of parents or teachers to view.Restricted category (???(?)) - People under 18 years old must not view.I have seen the same rating system applied on TV. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. <Locality Description="Portugal" ID="15">
<Ratings Description="Filmes"> <Rating Name="M/4" Description="Maiores de 4" Age="4"/> <Rating Name="M/6" Description="Maiores de 6" Age="6"/> <Rating Name="M/12" Description="Maiores de 12" Age="12"/> <Rating Name="M/16" Description="Maiores de 16" Age="16"/> <Rating Name="M/18" Description="Maiores de 18" Age="18"/> <Rating Name="M/18-P" Description="Maiores de 18 - Pornográfico" Age="18"/> </Ratings>
Each one of these can take a "Q" in front, ex: M/12Q, given to "Quality" movies, whatever that may be. It's seldom (if even) used anymore, and has no effect on the rating, so It's better left out.

| Posted: | | | | Norwegian rating seems up to date, but we do not have NR (covered by the A rating) and the upper restriction is not 18, but 21 (only one movie so far as far as I know - "Hostel"). Keep on rockin'... | | | Berak

| Posted: | | | | 21 isn't an official rating. The distributor of the movie gave it 21 (I thought it was 20 though) as a part of the promotional campaign when releasing the movie.
The official ratings in Norway are A, 7 år, 11 år, 15 år and 18 år... (Taken from http://film.medietilsynet.no/Film/Om_aldersgrenser) So the current list is correct. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

I think it could have been worded better, it took me a few minutes to work out what it actually means! The 12A UK rating is not relevant for DVD Profiler purposes anyway, as it is only used for cinema exhibition. Home video releases use the 12 certificate and cannot be sold to anyone under that age. |

I left that one out due to the nature of where it is implimented, since it doesn't relate to DVD, Video, Computer Games, as you pointed out in your RED Highlight. Adult DVD bought from a UK store is censored and/or cut. Bought from a "licensed sex shop" you get the real deal. I would assume thats vital information to anyone that buys adult DVD's in UK. At least thats how i see it. | | | Last edited: by whispering |
