I haven't bothered to pull the disc yet, but it's the original single disc Warner release in the snapper.  I seem to recall that between the releases, they went back and made more adjustments to the color correction, so it is possible that the credits had been adjusted.

OK. I gave that version away recently so I couldn't check it.

Dang it, you typed too fast and messed up my edit!

Turns out the screenshots are a dead match and we've been wasting our time discussing a completely bogus credit.

Wait, wait, wait...back on page 3, widescreen made the following post:

Are you telling me that those words aren't used?  At this point, I think we need to know the UPC/region of the DVD in question.  At the very least, we need a screenshot of the credit in question.  I would hate to think that someone is misleading us.

The screenshot James provided is identical.  If another screenshot exists to refute it, somebody else will have to find it as I didn't notice anything else in either the opening or closing credits.  The profile in question is 085391666820, United States.

I find that very disappointing as that means widescreen is submitting 'made-up data'.  I hope that isn't the case...maybe the Canadian version uses the words 'Direction / Director'.  While I doubt it, I guess it is possible.

OK what's going on here??????????    .. First of all I plead innocent ., as I was only trying to add a new ratio of 2:39  , when the old contribution and its notes kicked up that there was restoration contribution put in by White Pongo Jr back in Feb 08 ,  it was approved and submitted by our screeners ..

So when my own contribution for my one little add on was now subjected to this restoration item that I did not have in my data.., so I had to include that as well .., why???
Because i never checked the screen cap such as James Did .. Way to go James ..
SO  I have now submitted a brand new contribution and .........
lets just Walk away from this mess.

Goes to show you when an approved contribution is sittign in the data base doesn't necessarily mean it is right .. You have to check and approve everything by  hand and eye ..
My own data now looks like this which is local and cannot be contributible ..
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Alright, I call shenanigans.

White Pongo made a contribution, back in February '08, that added two restoration crew...James C. Katz: Producer and Robert Litt: Sound Re-Recording Mixer.  He did NOT add a credit for Robert Harris.  Your contribution, the one that has been pulled, was the one that attempted to add Robert Harris as the director.

How do I know this?  Because the existing profile does not have an entry for Director.  If he had included that credit in his submission, as you claim, it would be in the profile.

I don't know why you are trying to blaime Pongo, but that isn't going to fly.  I also don't know why you are removing the restoration crew, that was approved back in '08, but that shouldn't fly either.  JMHO

I'm not entirely certain what the heck happened there, but I can easily live without the restoration crew.  There does seem to be some confusion.

No thank you, Rho. You go use IMDb, there your strange ideas would work nicely.I am also not interested in your made up terms and roles. We use REAL data provided by people who actually made a movie. I believe someone explained the function of Mr. Harris quite nicely and very similar to the original director he exercises creative control over the final product, the only part he can't control are the performances. But there is far more to the job of the director than just the actors' performances.

I can just imagine the mess the database would be with your made up data. Scary thought.

I did not see anything about using IMDb data in RHo's message. How can it be made up data if you leave this questionnable "restoration director" out?

Jykke:

Becuase he clearly does not understand the concept of functional equivalents. Functional equivalents is trying to fit "equivalent" into our system. Here is actually trying to apply functional equivalent to OUR data, the role in this case is DIRECTOR, the Role in profiler is also Director, that is not a functional equivalent, it is an exact match. But he wants to try and apply some form of functional equivalent to be able to say well in this case it's a Director, in this other case it is NOT. That is an argument i will NEVER buy, that road leads to utter chaos and a reduction in Contributuions as usesr will have no idea how to cope with the IF Then statement, I have said this for years IF THENs are to be avoided like the plague.

The edition of my fair lady that Widescreen submitted was for the ORIGINAL release of the film (not the 2-Disc), I own BOTH but unfortunately both are boxed and in storage. WE do however know that credits can differ across Regions and Versions, so it is entirely possible for Mr. Harris to have a different credit in each edition. Now we can see from James' screen cred from the 2-Disc that Mr. Harruis would clearly become a Custom Credit if at all. Perhaps Terry will provide a screen cap of the Premiere Ecition, although it appears that he has made a change I am not sure.

But this an excellent example of why users should not be making changes across the board for copies they do not own. I do know own this terry, so i am not questioning you.

Now I am confused as to exactly where we are on this particular film. Are there two different creds across the two versions or is the credit the same in each one.

I am also confused I thought we were accepting restoration creds, I don't much care what ace says, he comes and goes ( and when he comes he inevitably stirs the pot and causes chaos) and much happens in his absence, particularly if we are going to play stupid yo-yo games, we are, we aren't we are, we aren 't. So, where are we and wherever it is let's cut the crap.

James owns one version, mdnitoil owns the other.  Both versions have the exact same credit...the one that James provided in his screencap.  Widescreen is now claiming that he did not even check the credits to make sure his data was correct.  In addition, he seems to be claiming that White Pongo, the person who contributed back in '08, is responsible for the director credit...something I can't wrap my brain around as there Pongo's contribution was accepted and there is no director credit in the existing profile.

We are accepting restoration crew credits, which is why I don't understand widescreens attempt to remove them.

OK, we're both confused.     I can grok that.

So where are we restoration creds, are we or aren't we. I thought we were, and you know how much i hate yo-yo games, almost as much as ping-pong. I thought there was a poll on restoration, if we aren't then there is lots of data that has been accepted to be dumped, at least I haven't contributed any of it, because of my personal opinion...but...

I far as I know, we probably are accepting it.  The director credit was bogus in this case, but there was an existing producer and sound mixer credit that were valid.  Personally, I have no use for it, but that's just me.  Only widescreen can explain what was going on with this profile.  The complaints that were being lodged were in reference to the additional of a director's credit.  I will say that the other change he was submitting was a cleanup of the studios and the aspect ratio, both good pieces of data.  Perhaps this mess was somehow the result of mixing up regions?  Only he can answer.

I guess that's a possibility, midnit. Whic would take me straight back to my absolute opposition to people making global changes to every copy and version of a film based only on the one which they possess. If that is correct we have a mess to unscamble by some undoubtedly well-meaning user. I hope that some users will take the hint and STOP this utter nonsense while it is still relatively easy to unscramble, and i hope that users will stop voting YES to this kind of garbage. As I have said before, we know the problem exists, we don't know exactly which titles might be involved, but all it takes is ONE to create a mess and we know there are a lot more than ONE.
