I was thinking on the database page where you vote... it would be a good thing to be able to check off a list of contributions and be able to vote neutral for whatever reason you may not want to vote on a list of contributions.

I recently came up with a case where there was several contributions on a single page that were all on my wishlist. Since unless it is completely obvious I do not like to vote on items from my wishlist... it would be cool to check off all those items with the ability to vote neutral to them.

I personally don't see a need for a yes or no vote button on these pages as to vote yes or no you need to at the very least look at each contribution... but if you know you are going to vote neutral I think it could be very handy.

Any thoughts?

I thought I would bring this back as I still think it would be a good idea to have. I vote neutral quite a bit between wishlist/ordered profiles and crew only (I don't vote on crew only) contributions.

I can see two stars.*  And yes congratulations.

*At your screencaps thread I thought you've gotten the first, even if it would have been worth two.

Hundreds ???

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

That's me who couldn't resist. I read somewhere that some people doubted about the fact that there is a problem with french contributions (and I have no data, but I would like to have informations about the situation in Spain, Italy, Brazil, Argentina...)

Yes, depending on the number of movies in your collection it can be much in Germany. I didn't count, but from yesterday to today I got ~85% of the alphabet with 2-3 contributions each letter. (In some way lucky for us.)

I would be also interested how the user/conbtributions stats for different countries are.

Now back on topic.
Some kind of multiple vote would be good imho. (List where you can flag the contributions)

But every improvment in the voting screen would be great. (I could think of several things)

It's better if we can get all of the ordered and wishlist out of the voting screen. I have said it before and I will say it again, you can't vote (or contribute) on profiles you don't own.

That would cause problems with creating pre-release profiles. And what's to stop people moving profiles to their "owned" list just so they can vote?

Sorry... but I definitely disagree with that! Maybe there is Some Stuff you can't vote on without the title in hand. But There is definitely some stuff that you can vote on easily enough. As I have in many cases...

- Scans with spine
- cast/crew from IMDB or like sites
- unneeded birthyears
- Adding wrong info to boxset profiles
- Episode plots in in parent profile overview of TV Series
- Removing simple episode list from TV Series

just to name a few off the top of my head

While you indeed keep saying so, you're flat out wrong. You can keep saying what you'd like, of course - but you didn't say that. You really should stop claiming that it can't be done, because that just isn't true:

For better or for worse, we have never blocked users from contributing to profiles they don't own, nor have we blocked users from voting on contributions for profiles they don't own.  In point of fact, the practice of voting on contributions for profiles users don't own has been going on for many years.

In these cases, no, it is not likely that the users' wishlist contents is an accurate protrayal of their intent to purchase.  However it is also the case that these users are some of the most careful and accurate voters.

Similarly, the users who take it upon themselves to improve profiles that are not in their collection are some of the most accurate contributors.

For these reasons, we have chosen not to block contributions or voting in these cases.  I'm happy to reconsider this policy if the community feels it is necessary.  However, be advised that if a change is made, it will prevent both contributing and voting, not one or the other.  This is something I have considered in the past and have developed a decently secure method of preventing extra-collection contribution/voting.  I would prefer not to implement this change as I still feel it would be detrimental to the overall database.

To recap:
- We do not (currently) prevent users from contributing or voting on profiles they don't own.
- If you are contributing to a profile that you don't own, our only requirement is that the notes submitted accurately reflect the source of the data, and state the specific profile used as the source.

Clear as mud?

And later, when this came up again:

Hmmm, let me see. You don't own the movie, that's why you can't vote on them. I never vote on them, and I never will.

That can easily be fixed by Ken. You can either upload the profile to his server by using this web page or he can add an ftp site that can suit this need.

There is nothing that can stop people from doing that. But in all honesty, why would they?

The bold parts is the problem, because users don't follow this guideline. They do as they see fit, and contribute false data on profiles that are already accurate.
Also, many people (I will not name them here) keep voting no on valid contributions, and they don't even own the movies.

This is my  opinion, I'm sorry to see that this is not allowed. I thought this forum had been better. But I guess I was wrong.

My main reason why I don't think someone who doesn't own a disc should vote on the submission. Completely agree with you here.

There are some clowns who will put multiple copies of the same movie in their wishlist or ordered or whatever, just so they can "keep an eye" on contributions. It's ridiculous to think they are keeping an eye on something when they can't even verify the changes, and most people realize they are just doing it to troll.

But, yeah, you aren't alone in your opinion, for sure. Someone mentioned a good point on why people should be allow to vote on titles they don't own, but it doesn't change my opinion that no way in hell should people do it.
