I sincerely hope everybody and Ken agrees on this.

I generally agree in principle though it significantly slows down adding links if you can't just cut and paste so I don't think I'd 'ban' any links which don't fit the criteria.
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

For example:

http://www.sawmovie.com/
and not
http://movies.break.com/saw

Why? At some point the original link will stop working.

Totally irrelevant, they are the same thing.

No, the original link generally always stays the same while the redirecting one could change over time.

They are the same alright, but some will rather see the correct characters and to prevent multiple links to the same page we need a standard.

Just wanted to say that I agree with Martin's assessment of this.

I agree. Same URL, just different characters. The first link looks better of course.

Ken could potentially add logic to replace escape strings that represent valid URL characters, but not really needed unless he feels it presents a nicer feel.

http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=1:160502~T0

Both are valid links.  The fact that they display the exact same page is no way to tell if the ~T0 is "extra".  The website could be doing something different based on those characters.

The ~T0 indicates which tab on the page it opens to, in this case, the "main page" of the movie in question.
