I voted no to an Easter Egg addition for Star Trek (UPC: 097363485049). The contributor is adding that R2D2 is spotted in the movie during one of the scenes...

Rules for Easter Egg:
Quote:
Easter Eggs are extra features hidden on the disc and not accessible through an obvious menu option. Be sure to match language of the Easter eggs to the profile's locality.

The contributor is providing where it is and a link to a screencap from the movie. And also stating that it was accepted to another profile.

Now...
My line of thinking. While this is an interesting little piece of trivia... it is not a hidden feature on the disc. So I am in the belief this is breaking the rules for Easter Eggs. The fact that it was accepted in another profile is in my opinion changes nothing. We all know wrong info slip in all the time... as well as the fact that Gerri herself stated that they do let some errors in if it is part of a bigger contribution.

In my opinion... what is the difference between this and other movies where it is noted that movie posters for other films the cast/crew worked on was put in... or I remember there was one movie where you saw Freddy Krueger's glove in a movie that had nothing to do with him.

I really think this is not a special feature of the disc as the rules state... and opens the door to changing the Easter Eggs field into a trivia field.

Thoughts?

Thanks... Definitely Agree.

I suppose it could be argued... but I personally wouldn't even do that... basically you would easily miss him if you didn't pause the movie at the right time. But as you said... I can at least see the argument for that one.

100% not an easter egg. A bit of trivia, but not an easter egg.

I'm the contributor.

The previous submission had 43 yes, 3 no. And was approved by screeners.

And yes, I do agree that it's not a traditional easter egg. The best place to put it would be in a "Trivia" section. But since we don't have that, I don't see what harm it can do to stick it in the Easter Egg section.

To me that's what this should boil down to. Not an academic discussion on what is a feature, and not an eye-rolling multi-pager on how best to interpret this particular rule. But simply: What harm can it do?

It's defintely not a cut-and-dry issue. It may be an easter egg. It may not be by the strictest interpretations of the rules. But, seeing how it at least is in the ball park, I again ask: What harm can it do?

If this were to be added as a Easter Egg, then by the same logic, Fight Club should have an Easter Egg stating that there is a penis shown at the end of the movie for no apparent reason.

The contributor has 13 different versions of Star Trek in his collection, so it seems like he's very busy contributing this "easter egg" to every release of Star Trek.

Anyway - I totally agree. This is not an easter egg, it's a piece of trivia. An in-joke like this is common in pretty much every single movie.

What about the number 1138? This is present in one way or another in every George Lucas film. Is this an easter egg? What about the wilhelm scream? How about Greg Grunberg in a J.J. Abrams movie?

There's no end to the amount of trivia you can find in a movie, and sticking all of it into the easter egg section of every profile, will make a lot more difficult to find the real easter eggs.

Besides, an easter egg is a feature on the disc, a piece of trivia like this is related to the movie.

Just one more thing. The fact that there's no place to put trivia, does not mean it's OK to put it somewhere else. It simply means that trivia can't be submitted. If you want to be able to submit trivia, you should lobby for a trivia section. Destroying the easter egg section is not the way to go.

Well, at the very least, the owner of the penis could be added as uncredited cast

This is my exact feelings on the matter too. This is not an easter egg by the definitely in the rules as it is not a feature on the disc. I wholeheartedly believe this does not belong in the Easter Egg field.

If you want a place for movie trivia... which is all this is... either put it in notes or try to get support for a new field in the feature request forum.

In my opinion... all this does is weakens the easter egg field as it is not what you expect to see there.
