I think maybe the time needed depend where you store the data. I think if you store them on external SD card it will take more time than if you store them directly in the storage of the phone/tablet. Don't have done tests but I think external card will slow down the copy process.

I did neither store Internal nor on External Media card. I stored the database in between, on the Internal Media Card, a 32 GB microSD Class 10.

One thing to try to speed up the initial database sync.

Use a program like wifi analyzer to check the wireless connection. If possible move the router to a different (less used) channel then move your tablet/phone to get the strongest signal (better signal is faster data transfer).

Watching the network tab on Task Manager during the transfer seems to show that network is not the bottle neck. That and I can copy 600 MB file over the same network in a fraction of the time it takes to sync.

Performance can be based on a number of variables including what device you're using.  But without knowing specifics of Ken's program, the transfer is doing more than just copying files as it has to also create the database entries and other associated mappings and files.

I have never be inpressed with file transfer speeds on any of my Andorid devices ( Hero, Evo 4G, Kindel Fire, Asus Transfer TF101. Wireless and wire transfers have all been rather slow, way slower than it should be.

That's a good point and it makes me wonder if anyone has compared how long it takes to for an initial DVDP transfer to complete on both their Android and Apple devices.  That is, is there a big difference but with that said the DPA app is new so it may take some tweaking to find a happy medium.

My Motorola Xoon (1st version) took just over 2 hours to synch 4500 profiles. From memory, as it's been a while since I did a full synch, my iPod touch 4th gen wasn't any quicker.

This was just a suggestion , wifi connectivity can be an issue especialy where there is poor connectivity. As others have said there are many factores that can impact the performance.

We've spent some time optimizing this, and the upcoming version 1.0.1 downloads from online in roughly half the time.  Desktop sync is also improved, but by a smaller amount.
