It looks like richierich was the last to review, so he goes next I think...

Best
Planet of the Apes (1968) (Classic Heston)
Lawrence of Arabia (a nearly perfect film)
The Incredibles (LOVE this film, I want my Blu-ray copy NOW!)

Worst
Superhero Movie (I have no words)
Planet of the Apes (2001) (As bad as the Original was good)
The Happening (A movie so stinky it taints my enjoyment of The 6th Sense  )

Most Needed
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) (So much better than Keanu's remake, although I still enjoyed it)
Blade Runner: 5-Disc Complete Collector's Edition on Blu-ray (you have the old director's cut DVD, but the new version is ASTONISHING and a steal at 10 times the price)
Akira (the perfect gateway drug into the world of Anime) OR
Ghost in the Shell (see above)

Thanks Bob - no arguments with your best or worst choices, I just got POTA on bluray and its awesome.
Most needed, yes to first 2, especially Blade Runner, I'll check out the edition you recommend. Anime though I've never enjoyed, so will not be investing in either Akira or Ghost in the Shell.

I'll let someone else do your collection, so this keeps moving

cheers

The thread is a recurrence of several others, that have run for several years. It would be too easy, repetitive and predictable if we just picked out 3 'masterpieces' such as Godfather, Citizen Kane or Casablanca from each others collections.

Fair enough rather than innovate let's just keep going round in circles with the same thread till we get Attack of the Killer Tomatoes in the best.

And as for having 'a good grasp of film making', who gives a feck?? We all get hung up at some stage in our collecting about buying and watching what you are led to believe are must sees, but the true pleasure of movie watching is being confident enough to enjoy a film, and not worrying what pipe smoking, sandal wearing leather patched elbowed 'experts' may say about it.

Hardly looking to impress anyone but im hardly going to ether go out there and buying anything blindly for the sake of it. I like to research films to buy and expanding my movie viewing that way blind buying does apply sometimes.

Plus what must always be kept in mind, a collection you view is likely to be a whole families list of dvds, and many great memories are often linked to times when some dvds are viewed, and therefore nostalgia when talking about certain films is common.
{climbs down from soapbox}

Yep i agree good point.

Well, I'll take a stab at bob9000's collection.

Best:
The Man Who Fell to Earth (absolutely amazing film)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (the perfect film this time of year, I never miss watching it in October)
Dirty Dancing (one of the best romantic films, ideal for a rainy afternoon)

(Ignoring the obvious choices of Lawrence & LotR, two of my top 5 of all time  )

Worst:
Dogma (I know lots of people who love this film, but I absolutely hated it)
The Spirit (It was really pretty to look at, but there was nothing else there...)
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (Possibly tops my list of remakes that should never have been made)

Most Needed:
Seven Samurai (An absolutely amazing film, and the perfect entry to Kurosawa's work)
Bubblegum Crisis (you have Tokyo 2040, is there a reason you don't have the first series?)
Princess Mononoke (you obviously enjoy anime, but I didn't spot much Miyazaki...)
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

The Man Who Fell To Earth in my opinion is nothing more than soft core porno with a lose story about some alien who comes looking for irradiated water. What ever happen to that story is lost in maze of badly shot sex scenes.

Not surprisingly this passes for art house and also cause it's Bowie it seems to be because of that ppl kind of have to say it's a good film. In fact it's just pure junk with Bowie on a crack trip and a total waste of time.

Look at honestly you could see this as something of the Ed Wood kind.

Apart from that yeah get the criterion of Seven Samurai you won't regret that.

Hi,

my english is really horrible, but i try to do my very best.

Best:
"Die letzten Glühwürmchen" (Tombstone for Fireflies) - absolutely brilliant and shocking
"Donnie Darko" - i like this movie, but many of my friends can't understand why ;-)
"Der Pate Trilogie" (The Godfather - Trilogy) - the most impressive Mafia-Movies i've ever seen

Worst:
Replicant - (JCVD has made many, many really bad movies, but in my opinion this one of his worst)
Dungeons & Dragons - (what a crap)
Full Metal Yakuza - (it's so bad, i have no more words for it)

Most Needed:
Hard Candy - (a great (i don't know if this is the right word) chamber play between Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson)
Pans Labyrinth - (simply ingenious)
Der blutige Pfad Gottes (The Boondock Saints) - (a movie that is an absolutely "Must Have" for every collection)

GREETZ n3uTrum

At the request of Stephan and to help keep the thread going, I'll do his collection.

Best:
Goonies-I watch this every year on Halloween, one of my top 10, I'd say.
Sound of Music-Just watched this the other day and had forgotten what a nice, well put together musical this was (if a bit long).
The Hunt For Red October-love this one...good actors, good action.

Worst:
Billy Madison-Not a real fan of Adam Sandler.  Think I've only watched one or two of his movies and actually liked them
Chuck und Larry (Chuck and Larry)
Hostel-yeah, not a horror fan at all.

Needed:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer-the seasons (or the movie.)  You have the one episode, but the rest are just as good!
Drawn Together-tv show from Comedy Central.  I see you have South Park and a few other comedies of that sort (Scary Movie, Queer Duck).  Drawn Together is cruder and more abrasive than South Park, I don't even usually admit to liking it much less owning it, but man, I've never laughed as hard as I have for this show.  The last season isn't the best, but the first two were very good.
Finding Nemo/Bug's Life-couldn't pick between the two; they're both really good.  If you liked the other Pixar films (you have Toy Story and Wall-E, it looks like), you'll enjoy these!

As for most needed:
I had all the Buffy & Angels episodes, watched 'em once and sold 'em for drug money or something like that.. And after seeing them once I am not sure if I wanna buy them again
Drawn together never saw it but will check it out
As for Finding Nemo and Bug's Life I will get them as soon as they are available on Blu

Your second favorite of my movies The Sound of Music.. I have to admit that I never watched that one.. I will do so as soon as possible

As for my worst movies.. Well those you mentioned are pretty bad but I have way worse movies in my collection

I'll do n3uTrum's List

Best:
Der Pate 2 (Godfather 2): Pretty much one of the best movies ever made.
History of Violence: just saw it recently and it was absolutely amazing
No Country for old Men: The Coen Brothers at their best

Worst:
Krieg der Welten (War of the Worlds): That's actually my least favorite film ever
Operation: Broken Arrow (Broken Arrow): That one's just plain bad.
Sniper 3: Even the first one wasn't very good but when they reached Nr. 3.. well

Most need:
24: Seasons 3-7: As you have 1 and 2 you should get the others too
Indiana Jones Quadrilogy: You have a lot of other Spielberg Movies so these stand out as missing
Star Wars Trilogy: At least the first 3 should be in every collection (Not the first 3 of the trilogy but the first 3 made)

Best
Firefly: The Complete Series: Special Edition Love this TV series, shame it's gone.
The Lord of the Rings: All 3 movies. They did good at trying to stay to the books.
Starship Troopers: Though they were so far from the book, it's a fun sci-fi. You have a good number of movie I could list a best. But only 3 here.

Worst
Pan's Labyrinth: This may be a good movie if you didn't spend the whole time trying to read the subtitles.
Scary Movie: Just hated it. Didn't waste my time with the other 2.
South Park: The only one I could stand to watch was the one on War craft.

Most Needed
Star Trek: The Original Series: All of it.
Twilight: Never seen it, and hear it's great.
The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen: If it's the one with all the cut suff put back in, it's the one I need.

Nice collection, lots of good moves. I had a hard time finding the worst list.

Wow, This was a lot harder then I thought.

Looking at Romzarah's collection:

Best:

Firefly: The Complete Series - Loved this series
The Day the Earth Stood Still (Original Version) - This is a classic from the story to the music.
The Birds - Alfred Hitchcock Classic.

Worst:

Beverly Hills Chihuahua - I think my brain shut down 1/2 through this, and not in a good way,  while watching with kid.
Caveman - I still shake my head that I paid to see this in the drive in ages ago.
Kangaroo Jack - I could not make it to the end of this one

Based on what I saw in your collection I'd suggest for the need list:

Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection - I see other 50's and 60's Sci-Fi and think you'd enjoy this.
Perfect Blue - If you like Hitchcock you should like this one.  It's animated but really good.
Live Free or Die Hard - I saw the first two in your listed and the 4th one is back to a good old sit back and enjoy the ride action flick.

I see I didn't get the most needed right. I see that you should suggest 3 titles for them to think about. Next time.. Ya it is harder than I thought too.

Ok I will do Romzarah

Based On our very similar taste it was hard to choose best 3 but here we go

An American Werewolf In London still to this day a pretty scary flick.

The Birds- Absolutley awesom Hitch movie.  This movie scarred the hell out of me.  I mean seriously.  What would you do if birds took over.

Bloodsport- One of the all time best guilty pleasure flicks. Go Dux!

Worst

Beverly Hills Chihuahua- I know you may have kids but still for me...Not good.
Butterfly effect 2- bad sequel to a pretty good flick
Fast and the Furrious Tokyo Drift- It was getting pretty tired by this point.

Most Needed

Cabin Fever- This is to cover your horror needs.  Give it a chance.  If your a true fan of horror you should get a lot of the refrences during the film.

I saw some Hitchcock sprinkled in there so I would have to say that the obvious suggestion would be North by Northwest but I will go a step further and say you have to track down Rope.  It's a rare find on DVD but worth it if you find it.

To cover the 80's flicks I would say a MUST would be Morgan Stewarts Commong Home.  It's a funny flick starring Jon Cryer who is a kid returning home from Boarding School who also happens to be a huge horror movie fan.

Its been even longer for me, slowed down quite a bit, still got a lot of catching up to do...
so anyway for FLYERSFAN:
Best:
The Pre-code Hollywood Collection
Magnificent Seven
Young Frankenstein
Worst:
Waterworld (even I don't have that one in my collection and I've got some REALLY awful ones)
The Hole (just felt it went nowhere)
Open Water (what not to do when your stranded in the middle of the ocean)
Needed:
Poolhall Junkies (Rod Stiegers last movie and enjoyed the twists and con jobs, best Poolhall movie)
Foolproof (early Ryan Reynolds movies with a good ending)
Hard Candy (Ellen Page at her best, subject isn't for everyone, but a good flick overall)

For themoviemaster

Quite a tricky one. Over 3000 profiles, and a taste for horror. Here's my picks:

BEST
  • Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde [1920] - Great adaptation!

  • Green Street Butchers - Fun Danish comedy. I prefer In China They Eat Dogs, but this is a fun(ny) movie none-the-less.

  • Dog Soldiers - Great fun, and glad to see prosthetics chosen over CGI. This is the movie that introduced me to Neil Marshall.

  • WORST
  • 2012 - Stopped caring about the characters because of all the near-escapes (not too fond of them in the first place). Every challenge was grand, and they got away unharmed. Became a yawn-fest.

  • King Kong [1976] - I don't think it was the changes to the plot that annoyed me, but I had an intense dislike for this one.

  • Starship Troopers 3: Marauder - The first one was so much fun. This one just got preachy.

  • MOST NEEDED
  • Phantom of the Opera [1925/29] - You have quite a bit of classic horror, and two versions of the story, so this one is an obvious addition.

  • Versus - You have Tokyo Gore Police, so clearly you don't mind a bit of silly J-splatter. I was going to suggest Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl, but I've not seen that one yet.

  • Cutie Honey - You have Zebraman, which I haven't seen, but it seems to fit with that whole zany Japanese hero thing. btw, it seems there's a sequel - Zebraman 2: Vengeful Zebra City.

  • ----

For those unfamiliar with this game, you look at the previous poster's collection. From their collection you decide for each category what are their:

    Best three titles (your taste)
    Worst three titles (your taste)
Most Needed three titles (based on what you consider to be their taste)

Try to get a bit of variety into your categories. Don't just list a trilogy as 1, 2 & 3. Also, try not to be too obvious with your choices. Instead of picking three movies that are always hailed as masterpieces/derided as failures, pick some lesser-known titles that you think are noteworthy. Don't be afraid of a little controversy either (saying you hated a movie that everyone else seems to love).
