| Posted: | | | | I thought it would be good to collect the official statements of Ken and Gerri that were made in contribution discussions. This could help us to not always discuss the things again on that we got a help/decision from them. A example how it could be entered you can see in the second post. To have a little bit overview in this thread it would be nice if you would take for discussion about this, this discussion-thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=430574I hope you help me to fill this thread, so that we get a little Overview until hopefully such decisions find their way into the rules. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | How to enter credited as "As Himself" in DVDP?Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote: There is a contribution up for 'Zombieland'. It does not add full crew, so I made a contribution that does. There is, however, a difference of opinion as to a single credit. Here is the cast list as presented in the end credits:
Columbus Jesse Eisenberg Tallahassee Woody Harrelson Wichita Emma Stone Little Rock Abigail Breslin 406 Amber Heard As Himself Bill Murray Clown Zombie Derek Graf
Here is the question...How do you enter Bill Murray? Note: Ken has already ruled on the "Name: Himself Role: Bill Murray" debate so that is a non-issue. Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The poll is right-on. Enter as:
Name: Bill Murray Role: Himself (The poll was clearly in favor of "Himself" at the time posting this in here) Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=430382&PageNum=1 | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | Military rank in creditsQuoting .: Quote: DVD: When Trumpets Fade How do you credit these guy's? There is a contribution where the credit changes to this: Gy. Sgt. Brian / Hicks USMC as 1st Sergeant > Brian / Hicks [Gy. Sgt. Brian Hicks USMC] as 1st Sergeant Cpl. John / Miller USMC as Radio Man > John / Miller [Cpl. John Miller USMC] as Radio Man my feeling none of them are correct: USMC should not be there (affiliation) however this is mentioned for crew only:
Quote: Do not enter union/guild affiliations, such as A.C.E. and B.O.E.
Statement: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: I would agree with including the USMC. In my opinion, I would consider as all part of his rank, which was included in these credits.

| Posted: | | | | Cast and crew of movies without creditsQuestion was, if it is allowed to take cast and crew from the official site of the movie, if there are no credits in the movie itself. Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: I see no problem listing the cast (as uncredited) and crew from the official site in this case. Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=423779&PageNum=1Post of Ken is on second page of this thread. |

| Posted: | | | | Contributing Flip-coversQuoting hpopp: Quote: Is contributing flip-covers against the contribution rules?
For a few weeks, all new releases of DVDs in Germany are required to have a big ugly ratings-label on the front-side by law.
Since this often destroys the cover-art, some media-companies started to release their DVDs with flip-covers that have the same cover without the ratings-label on the inside, so that collectors can enjoy the covers the way they were supposed to look.
The contribution-rules do not address this problem exactly. The only requirement that even remotely goes into the direction of motive states: "The covers must match the profile exactly, including the UPC and locality." Which fits to both sides of the cover since the "inside"-cover does match the profile exactly.
I currently have two contributions pending, one where at the moment there are two yes and two no votes. The no-votes stating that the coverscan should only be the side that is required to be shown in shops by law, which in the end would mean that it is against the contribution rules to supply the inside of flip-covers at all.
Two examples:
Backcovers are identical. ... Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The rules don't specifically cover this. We generally encourage submission of covers without stickers, and although these aren't stickers, they serve a similar purpose.
So, as long as the flip cover otherwise matches the front, I don't see a problem submitting it. Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=376754&PageNum=1Post from Ken of page 3. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | In addition to "How to enter credited as "As Himself" in DVDP?" "Himself as <actor name>" creditStatement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: My thought on this is that if the cast listing is explicit, as in "Himself as Bob Smith", or "Bob Smith played by Himself", then the Credited As field should be used to preserve intent. However, if the only indication of Name/Role is left/right, I would lean towards allowing the credit to be entered as name: "Bob Smith", role: "Himself"
EDIT: And yes, use only the pointy end of the arrow to select colors.
-> Bob Smith [Himself] as Bob Smith Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=284968&PageNum=1Post from Ken of page 6. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | Audio track without audio menu/avalability in menuQuoting hal9g: Quote: Just to go on record, Gerri, can you please confirm that Ken did not intend to exclude audio track information in DVDP when the DVD has no audio menu but does have an audio track on the DVD.
There are literally thousands of DVDs (older movies and TV shows) which only have a default audio track (typically English: Mono) with no capability for the user to select or deselect it.
Thank you. Statement: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: That is correct. If there is a default audio track, then it is contributable regardless if it has a method to select or not (I guess it is selectable by just playing the DVD ). Basically, Ken was meaning to exclude those that take hardware modifications, etc to make them available. | Posted: | | | | Wall-E or Wall•E (point as seperator in title)Quoting JaLe: Quote: Sorry if this has been discussed already.
Disney/Pixar's latest animation Walleee is just about to be released in DVD and Blu-ray.
If I have to guess, name of this movie can be cause some ping-pong on contributions.
I don't know is the poll needed but I hope that it doesn't make a harm.
Actual question is, how to write the title name ??? - WALL or Wall - sign before E => Bullet, middle dot or regular hypen-minus Statements: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: New filter has been added to replace • and · with - in the title only. In addition, " -" will be replaced with "-" (space before dash removed) Quote: In the case of profile updates, it will show with the dash in the contribution submission page, so they can see it before it is submitted. Quote: The extended character • does not show properly in all places in the program, hence the decision to convert it to '-' Quote: I removed the filter for " -" to "-". | Posted: | | | | Producer credit: A <name> productionQuoting T!M: Quote: Simple question: does this get Mr. Koch a "producer" credit? I've used 'Airplane!' as an example, but I've run into various similar cases as well. This is how the film starts:
To be clear: this is Mr. Koch's only credit: a bit further on, there's a regular "producer" credit for Jon Davison, and three "executive producer" credits. Some 'Airplane!'-profiles in the database do have him listed as producer, others don't. Statement: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: In this case, you would not give him a producer credit. | Posted: | | | | Using the most commonly credited form of a name as common nameQuoting eaglejd: Quote: I have submitted a change on a common name.
Changing Common Name, as per "Credit Lookup".
Zoë Saldaña 2/2
Zoë Saldana 12/23
Zoe Saldana 82/211
I have several no votes (7) and alot of yes votes (24) on Pirates.
On Guess Who, I have 7 yes and 0 no voted.
Now, the rules say and I quote:
"Crew and Cast Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.
Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name.
To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool."
Now, why would you be required to use the Credit Lookup tool and not be required to use the results.
That would not make any sense and make the tool useless. Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The lookup tool is not to be blindly trusted, however it does outweigh other sources, including autographs. The common name is not intended to always reflect the "real name", but the most commonly credited name.
However, if a user documents errors in the database where the credit is not entered properly, that can and should be considered. Better yet, correct the entries, assuming you own the discs in question, thereby correcting the lookup results. Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=219058&PageNum=1Post from Ken of page 2. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An in Addition to the above: What's more important on the CLT results: Number of titles or number of profiles?Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The CLT results do not change when the common name is updated. The CLT uses the Credited As field only.
And, to answer the question, the number of movies is the more important number. Link to the original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=371084&PageNum=1Post from Ken on page 2. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | First release cover scans that had mistakesQuoting scottiew: Quote: I submitted a new back cover scan of this DVD because Magnolia has corrected the subtitle issue and included the "theatrical" subtitles rather than the dumbed down version that currently exists and is noted now on the dvd case art.
I got a comment that the older/incorrect version is the one that will be used for the online database.
My question is why?
If the older version is incorrect, has been corrected with a new version and that will be the only one authored by Magnolia from now on why wouldn't we want to have this scan?
Thanks in advance for comments. Statement: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: As the rules are today, the old cover scan would be the correct one. Best bet for now is to keep the updated version local. | Posted: | | | | BluRay/DVD-ComboQuoting Dragon 6: Quote: Whay are we submitting box set/child profiles for Blu-ray disc the come w/ the same movie in DVD form? Rules:
Quote: The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. In my opinion more than one film would be: The Bourne Trilogy, Starship Troopers Trilogy, The Ultimate Matrix Collection, The Godfather box set, Spider-Man box set, Die Hard Collection, etc. All these are box sets, more than one film but not the same film. when we have a profile that has both wide screen and full screen of the same movie, we don't make that a box set. So why should we take a Blu-ray profile that has a DVD of the same film and make it a box set? If we are going to except profiles like this as a box set/child profile, then we should do the same for the wide screen/full screen profile as well. Statement: Quoting Gerri Cole: Quote: Submitting the DVD in the BluRay DVD Combo via disc ID as a child profile is acceptable. | Posted: | | | | Filter for Jr./Sr.Statements: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: We've prepared a filter to standardize the "jr." suffix. Currently we have variations of Jnr and jr, with or without comma, with or without period, in various capitalizations. The filter will alter these to "XXX, Jr.". It operates on the last name field only and does not affect the Credited As field. Comments please. Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The filter, once implemented, would change a submission of
Robert Downey Jr.
to:
Robert Downey, Jr. Credited As: Robert Downey Jr. Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: Sr. standardization has been added and both are now active to try out. Link to original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=336568 | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | Filter for initialsQuoting GreyHulk: Quote: Hi,
I'm trying to enter a correction for the R1 'The Fifth Element' but keep getting turned down by many people because they disagree with how I have entered 'J.D. Dawodu' in the cast list.
He is credited as 'J.D. Dawodu' on the credits at the end of the movie (with NO space between the J. and the D.)
His most common form on the Credit Lookup tool is 'J.D. Dawodu'=15/38 [J. D. Dawodu=7/26]
Has he really got to be entered as J./D./Dawodu [J.D. Dawodu]?? Statement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: I've added a new filter to standardize initials. It will operate to move the second initial to the middle name if there is no middle name entered. If a change is made that affects the displayed name, the Credited As field will be set, if not already set, and if not an uncredited member.
So:
J.D./Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu [J.D. Dawodu] J D/Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu [J D Dawodu] J. D./Dawodu becomes J./D./Dawodu
Not affected by this filter: JD/Dawodu J/Dawodu J.D./Bob/Dawodu Link to original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=337310&PageNum=1Post from Ken on page 2. |

| Posted: | | | | Filter for middle name to last name changeStatement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: And one more filter while we're at it. If there is a middle name entered but no last name, the middle name will be moved to the last name.
So: Adam/Carolla/ becomes Adam//Carolla. Uncredited is not entered as the displayed name doesn't change. Link to original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=337310&PageNum=1Post from Ken on page 3. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | Invelos evaluators' standing policyStatement: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: The Invelos evaluators' standing policy is to accept profiles that add significant value. They do not have to be complete, nor even completely accurate. If you're submitting 50 painstakingly correct cast entries but get the production year wrong, the profile should be accepted and corrected later.
"No" votes are equally valid in this case, however. They allow the contributor a chance to correct their submission if they choose, and save someone the effort of the correction later on.
I've sent out a notes reiterating this policy to the evaluators. Link to original thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=345020&PageNum=1Post from Ken on page 2. |
