| Posted: | | | | I wanted to suggest adding a permanent collection list for HDX (or UltraViolet, Digital, Vudu, iTunes, whatever you want to call it). I wish we could add HDX's to the database in their own category, not using the Blu-ray or DVD, but with the actual HDX properties, not just a tag or something). I own HDX movies that I don't own a physical disc for, but would still like to include in my collection lists. Right now I'm handling this with tags, but, I would like to see a more integrated solution. Thank you for your consideration!! | | | Last edited: by Morte |

| Posted: | | | | As I mentioned in another thread, I agree that DVD Profiler needs to diversify, I know a good many people here are devoted to the physical media, I am myself for movies I truly care about, but the sad fact is physical medias days are numbered. Media formats come and go, for music think records, 8-tracks, cassettes, CD's (barely holding on at this point) and DVD (never made it off the ground. For video there was Betamax, VHS, CED, LD, DVD (again barely holding on now) and Blu-Ray. DVD and BluRay sales dropped 11% in 2015 while digital sales increased by 18%. In 2016, digital sales overtook physical media which dropped a further 10% from the already diminished 2015 numbers. If DVD Profiler doesn't keep up, it will go out with the DVD. I have always had custom media types for LaserDisc (yes I still have a few dozen), a scant few VHS as well as a Digital category. But I think in order for DVD Profiler to continue and attract new users, it really needs to keep up with the times and add some support for digital purchases. |

| Posted: | | | | A step in the right direction would to at least allow us to catalog the details of the digital copy which comes with the physical copy such as:
Providers (PC/download, iTunes, Google Play, UV, etc.) HD or SD redemption Expiration date Redemption code and if code has been redeemed, etc. |

And I can extend that by more fields (like exoiration date) if you like. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I don't get tracking these codes. In the time it would take to enter all this into my database, I could have (and already would have) just redeemed the code and been done. Once I own it digitally, I no longer care what the code was or when it expires.
With the SD vs HD, I recently learned that most of the streaming apps just stream the SD version regardless of what you own. I had to actually get out my laptop and play something there just to verify that I did indeed own the HD version. So owning the HD version doesn't mean that's what I get out of Flixster on my iPad. Still, I could see tracking this information.
The provider is the only field *I* would find value in. And I honestly doubt I'd ever use it.
Anyway, I'm not against tracking any of this. I don't fully understand the request. But if others find it useful, I'd not stand in the way. I guess I'm just a little curious why people want to track the code and expiration dates. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Some of the reasons, in my case, are as follows: Using the online info to determine whether or not to purchase a specific version; i.e. is the digital copy already expired, does it redeem with the preferred provider, is the digital copy in the right resolutionDigital codes are not always redeemed right away; i.e. redemption issues or digital copy is already ownedIf digital copy is already owned then keeping track of unredeemed codes and expiration dates help if you wish to sell the code later. Or if the code is supposed to redeem for HD, but there is a current problem where it's only redeeming SD then keeping track of unredeemed codes is useful.Having the code handy in DVDProfiler makes it quicker to retrieve an unredeemed code when looking to redeem/sell a code than having to go pull it from the libraryIn my case, I'm interested in the max (best case) resolution since we may watch digital copies which do support HD streaming on those devices. Provided resolution is also affected by internet speed and bandwidth issues so there's also the possibility of the resolution being downgraded when streaming. |

| Posted: | | | | I think the most essential use of DVD Profiler for me is to not repurchase something I already have in my library. So I'd REALLY like to know if I already own a movie as a digital copy... at least then I'd be informed even though I'm dedicated to physical media until internet streaming is superior quality to physical media. (Won't be for a while!)
Thanks!

Dave I personally have all the my movies that only exist in my VUDU account added to DVDP and the Android app using custom categories, etc. I have not double dipped since. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |
