I've seen quite a few posts around these parts about how cheaply things can be bought in various places at various times, such as the entire back catalogue of, eh, everything, for $1 from Dollar Tree, (provided you don't mind them all sharing the same barcode; the Pound Shop in the UK just can't compete)!

What I don't remember seeing is anyone admitting to the most expensive disc etc they've ever bought.  Having just had my annual Black Friday blowout and cashed in all the vouchers etc I've collected over the past year, I've realised that a lot of physical media seems to have gone up - a lot.  I rarely used to spend over £20 on any Blu-ray or DVD disc, but this year there seemed to be quite a few.  I'm not sure what the most I've ever spent on a single disc is (I'll have to investigate that further), but buying Stargate SG-1: The Compete Series on Blu-ray, on import, was a sobering experience; (and it will be sobering as I can't afford to buy any beer now!)!  It cost £186.71 from Amazon, including import fees.  That's definitely the most I've ever spent on a single purchase.  (And no one please tell me it's now only £171.93, I already know. Or that it's only $1 from Dollar Tree, but shares a barcode with Dude Where's My Car?)

Anyone else got any confessions to make?  Don't be (too) ashamed, we're all tared with the same brush here.  You won't be ridiculed too much for your financial indiscretion.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I know it's beyond sad replying to your own posts but financial panic over.  For my Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series on DVD (yes, my recent purchase was a double-dip and to add insult to injury my DVD set is still unopened, so I never even used it), ziffit.com will give me 10p, yes an entire ten of our British pennies.

The most I ever spent on a single disc was for a Mixed Martial Arts dvd called Sengoku No Ran 2009 from Japan. Japanese dvds always seem on the expensive side anyway and I ended up getting this through one of those 3rd party sites that purchase items and ship it to you for a fee from sites that don't normally ship outside of Japan. It's ended up being around $90 Canadian after the exchange rate, shipping etc.

The most expensive set I ever bought is the recent Shawscope volume 2 set from Arrow. Was a little for $200 Canadian.

No, four discs with the Theatrical Cut, Extended Cannes Cut and the Argento Cut plus a fourth disc with features.

most expensive Movie Boxset:
Planet of the Apes: The Evolution (DVD) 103,50€, bought 2000
the 5 old movies from "Planet..." to "Battle for..."

most expensive Anime Boxset:
Serial Experiments Lain (DVD) 99,24€, bought 2001

most expensive complete TV-Series:
Six Feet Under - Die komplette DVD-Sammler-Edition (DVD) 96,99€, bought 2007

most expensive single Movie:
Brazil - The Criterion Collection (DVD) 58,85€, bought 2001

for comparison: most expensive Boxset Blu-ray
Harry Potter - Limited Book Edition (BD) 49,99€, bought 2007
first 6 movies

so Blu-ray was rather cheap for me. Nowadays I'm hardly buying more than 1-2 titles per year.

I paid $249.99 for The Skywalker Saga, all 9 episodes in 4K and BR; $34.99 for the 3D of The Force Awakens; $21.01 for the 3D of The Last Jedi; $21.98 for the 3D of The Rise of Skywalker for a total of $327.97. I also bought several versions of episode IV, V and VI over the years from DVD to BR, full screen to widescreen to extended editions ($??.??) and BRs of eipsode I, II and III ($??.??). I also have Rogue One in 3D for $24.99 and Solo in 4K $29.99 and 3D for $15.25. The Ewok Adventures for $9.99.

Last week I paid $39.99 for the very rare BR of The Abyss (Special Edition) with the Theatrical and Extended versions. I was worried that it would be the SD versions burned on BR, but upon watching it is actually HD. It does not have a UPC so I contributed it using the disc ID.

Back in 2002 I was making my first real money and it was the year of the Star Trek: The Next Generation DVD release. Every season came what could be called a lunch box and cost 99-109€. Luckily if you collected the receipts of the first six seasons you'd get the seventh one for free. 2003 the same with Deep Space Nine.

And then things like the I, Robot DVD + head for 99€.

On a different note: I have multiple 3(!) different versions of the Friends complete series box set and a total of 51 seasons (3 complete series box set) of Smallville which only has 10 seasons.

Thanks people, I'm starting to feel a bit more normal now.

In 2005 I paid £159.96 for Xena: Warrior Princess - The Complete TV Series (DVD) in a nice collector's pack that's like a big book.  Haven't got around to watching that yet.

Also in 2005 I bought Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The Complete DVD Collection for £134.99.  (This one I did finally watch last year.  Need to submit that sometime; it took forever to profile.)

I'm pretty sure I've probably spent over £50 on a single disc once or twice, but many films in my database don't have a price with them, as I got them before I started using DVD Profiler and a lot of the places where I got them online have now gone out of business, so I've no way to look up the information now.

There was a lovely Marvel Studios: The Infinity Saga - Collector's Edition Complete Box Set that came out (last year I think), but I've only just got over the therapy I required after seeing the price; I think it was over £400.

I remember considering The Skywalker Saga on 4K, but in the end I went for normal Blu-ray instead.

*Special Note:  Anything Star Trek related is ALWAYS good value, regardless of the price.

Yep, that's it.

I will watch it eventually, I've just got a bit of a backlog to get through.

The early days of DVD were crazy. I paid more then than I pay for 4K blu-rays now.

TV series seasons were especially expensive. I remember the first time I paid more than $100 ($118.97 to be exact) for a title, it was Cosmos by Carl Sagan. I still own it (and I have watched it).

I think it might be Criterion's Ingmar Bergman's Cinema set, which I got for $150 at the B&N 1/2 off Criterion sale two years ago.
