I know a lot of people have been asking for the CSV Export feature to be returned, so here it is finally.

You can get a copy from the Downloads area on this site or here.

Simply run the Setup.exe program inside then startup Profiler.  You should now see a new option listed under the Tools menu called "Export Profile Database to CSV".  This pretty much works just like the old export function with a few new goodies added.

If you have any issues with it, let me know in this thread and I'll try to address them.  But I've been using it for about 2-3 months now without any issues.  I've also gone to great lengths to have the output match exactly what we had with 2.4.  So if you were using the old files with another application, you shouldn't have any issues with the new files.

Update: July 11, 2008

Version 1.4 is available

Added Ireland, Philippines and Estonia to Country of Origin.

Version 1.3 is available

Added new fields to export
  - Localities

Version 1.2 is available

Added new fields to export
  - Notes
  - Last Watched - Date
  - Last Watched - User
  - Times Watched
  - All Watched - Dates
  - All Watched - Users

Renamed "Profile ID" to "UPC".

Fixed problem with profiles not being exported with certain combinations of output fields

Fixed problem with Data Alignment getting stuck on Multiple Rows and not outputting data

Update: July 14, 2007

Version  1.1 is available.  It contains the following changes:

Added new fields to export
  - Composer #1 & Composer #2
  - Description - Side A & Description Side B
  - Disc ID - Side A & Disc ID - Side B
  - Dual Layered - Side A & Dual Layered - Side B
  - Label - Side A & Label - Side B
  - Location & Slot
  - Overview
Fixed problem with quotes in the Title field

Looking good so far.
The next version should include additional field, like Slot and Location.

Mithi,

I think the reason I left out fileds like slot and location is that it's a many to one relationship.  That is a single profile can have multiple slots and locations.  That's not to say it can't be done of course.  It's more a matter of finding the best way to do it.  Since I had no need for it, I thought I'd leave it out of version 1.

With that said, do you have any suggestions on how best to implement this?  Should duplicate rows be written for each slot/location?  Should it output some predefined amount similar to how it handles Directors (like 2.4, only the first two directors for a profile are listed)?  Not knowing the needs for this data, I can't really determine the best solution without additional input.

Great stuff Mark. It works a treat.

RE Slot/Location, I think each slot/location should have it's own column and, if possible, make it user definable how many you want exported.

Good questions, but I don't really need it anyways, being Mr. XSLT
I would suggest "first entry only"
Anyone who needs that should/would/could work with childprofiles anyways, I think.

I was wondering why you had so much interest since you were the one showing everyone how to do it with XML.

Anyway, I think when I get around to it, I'll probably opt for a new column for each slot/location.  The first one would be easy to add I'd think.  I could do 2 or 3, but you do have to draw the line somewhere.

The bigger question is if someone actually wants this data?  I don't see the point in adding features no one will use.

You have to update your, well, .NET Framework to 2.0 (or 3.0)... You can download it from Microsoft.

Did you install .NET 2.0?  For the average user, this would be found here.

If you need a 64-bit version, you can find the links here under the ".NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package" section.

You can also run Windows Update if you're on XP or Vista and it should detect if you need to install 2.0.

Hi

I also would like a slot location on CSV, for my application I have a unique slot/location for each DVD so a single instance would be fine for me. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear that others are finding this useful.  But I do want to discuss the location/slot data a little more.

So let me use an example here.  I have The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended Edition.  That's a single profile.  It has 4 discs.  Discs 1 & 2 are the movie, discs 3 & 4 are the bonus material.

At this point when I do a CSV export, I get one row for that profile.  The problem is that profile has 4 different location/slot values potentially since it has 4 discs associated with the profile.

So again I say, how do you handle that?

Option 1 would be to repeat each row for each unique location/slot.

So the CSV might look like:

Title,Location,Slot
Lord of the Rings, Location1, Slot1
Lord of the Rings, Location2, Slot2
Lord of the Rings, Location3, Slot3
Lord of the Rings, Location4, Slot4

Option 2 would be to handle this like it does with director.  It could either list the location/slot for the first disc in the profile and ignore the rest or list the first x number.  And then what should x be?  For TV sets, this could get much worse.  I have a TV set (Nowhere Man) that has 9 discs.  Should x = 9 then?  If I had a disc changer, I'd certainly load all 9 profiles, but where do you stop?  What if something has more than 9 discs associated with it?

Anyway, that CSV might look like:

Title,Location 1, Slot 1, Location 2, Slot 2, Location 3, Slot 3
Lord of the Rings, Location1, Slot1, Location2, Slot2, Location3, Slot3

What's the best solution here?  Since I have no need for that information, I honestly don't know.  I'm replying on those who need that data to tell me what they need.  Once we know the right direction to go, it should be an easy matter to make the change.  But I need to know which direction to go first.

Hi

Well I misstated myself in my first mail so let me go into more detail, I have about 2000 DVD's stored in Sony changers and accessed by Escient equipment, using the report feature of DVD profiler I can generate a list of all my DVD's with a location/slot for each disc, what I can't do is manipulate it in that format. I would like to generate a list sorted by location and disc rather than title, since some things have many discs (Danger Man Set-18) I guess x would have to equal a pretty high number in order to extract all the data. Worse yet I have titles that have an entry for each disc in the set like Danger Man, there are 18 individual entrys each including the disc number in my database but for my movies that contain multiple discs I just have entries in the location/slot area like Lord of the Rings has only one DVD entry which contains four locations for the discs. I hope that helps, sorry for being a PITA. If ther is anything I can do to help I will be happy to do so.

Hi Mark,

thanks for that plugin. It is great and does everything I want and need (possibly at this time)
Maybe in the future will be a facility in DVDP that needs an extension.

Thanks again.
Kind Regards
Heinz
