If it is an episode or subtitle it should be divided by a colon and not a hyphen.

Could you please show me the part of the rules where it's written, that subtitles should be seperated by a colon ?
One moment of perfect beauty.

This is the reason, why these agreements or polls, if they are aproved by Invelos, ought to be connected with the Contribution Rules via Links to the Forums or something.

I was wondering the same thing when you made it sound like Germany was separate, Joe. That's WHO, BTW

Aaah, ok and I thought it was a user with his 15,334 posts - no star - who told me to shut up.

Germany, BTW, has a very large and active user base, that was it that I wanted to point out.

I just find it curious, that something which has worked for years is put in question again by users, who are not even affected by this.
This is all I have to say for this topic.

Once again, the Rules need to be updated for clarity.

These titles are not directly addressed, since they are titles with subtitles.  They are not episodic

For all of the rest of us, the colon has always been used to separate these.

The fact that the German community, on their own, decided on their own standard, just muddies the waters.

Ken just needs to add "subtitles" to the Rules for using colons.

Tom:

As Hal and I both have said Germany can go off and do their own thing...it affects everyone else. The colon has alwys been used to separate these and you can check any number of Region 1 titles to see this, Tom. Ken should add subtitles to the rules but i think this poll is pretty conclusive which way you should be heading, Tom. I can't even think of a logical argument why I would use a hyphen instead of a colon, does it say anything differently, no, not really. The colon however, does keep everybody on the same page.

Joe, I don't care how big Germany's user base is, you still can't just go off and do your own thing, unlessyou can convince Ken to isolate the German part of the database so it doesn't affect anyone else. But you wouldn't like that, because then you could not own any R1 titles.

Well, in the absence of clear rules...

Disagree. Since in German publications it is used with a hyphen I would recommend the use of a hyphen here.

It's been said before by Ken and/or Gerri that we aren't always after capturing the title with 100% accuracy, we have the covers for that. If one set of people do things one way, another a different way and a 3rd another the database will be in a complete mess. I think everyone should use the same formatting to keep it tidier.

There is no RC1 title which is affected by this. This is what I am talking about. Users forcing a rule which really does not apply to them. Of course the poll is against the hyphen because largely RC1 users are voting here.
82% of the users who are affected by this have voted to use the hyphen in those cases. And we are happily abiding to this descision. Not reason to drag it up again.

But the rule needs to be for all users... not just the German users. It would effect EVERYONE. I agree with Hal... it should just be added to the episode descriptors rules... using the colon.

IF(!) you would follow the rules it WOULD be "Snatch Schweine und Diamanten" (AS ON COVER) (compare "Underworld Evolution" and not "Underworld: Evolution"

BUT as a thinking beeing ones see that "Schweine und Diamanten" is a subtitle and you wan't to make this visible...

And btw. there is a logical difference between "Snatch - bla & blub" and "Snatch: bla & blub"

I disagree with those who say "It should be colon by rules". No, it has nothing to with episodes.
I agree with those who say "It isn't part of the rules and should be mentioned there as an exeption"
I agree with those who say "It should be hyphen", because:

It is not just a German issue, it is widely used way in european multilingual titles (accepted by Ken) to separate combinations of original title and localized "add-on". Ken even changed title field filter so the users are able to enter titles like this with hyphen. No, I'm too lazy to find that post, but it was on a thread about Title field filters, when they were introduced some time around 3.5 release (or beta test).

So yes, with hyphen, as Ken agrees. Another reason to update the rules...

Yes, I can also remember Ken's adjustment to the filter to help those titles. Also Invelos regularly accept profile changes, which only correct the colon to an hyphen for those titles.
