| Posted: | | | | I was wondering what people's favourite movies were from each decade since the first motion picture (A Horse in Motion - 1878). I find these types of topics can be a good way to 'discover' movies you didn't know about. For simplicity's sake, I've assigned decades in my list as xxx0-xxx9.
My selection: 1870s * 1880s * 1890s * 1900s * 1910s * 1920s Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1920) 1930s King Kong (1933) 1940s * 1950s Quo Vadis (1951) 1960s H.G. Wells' The Time Machine (1960) 1970s A Clockwork Orange (1971) 1980s The Dark Crystal (1982) 1990s The Fifth Element (1997) 2000s A Scanner Darkly (2006) 2010s Not seen anything yet
* signifies that I've seen something from that decade, but have nothing that I would consider a favourite (yet).

| Posted: | | | | I found it just about impossible to pick one from each decade, but here's my list anyway:

| Posted: | | | | Hard to pick! You said favorite, not what we think was the best movie of that decade, so with that in mind...
1910s Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari (1919) 1920s Battleship Potemkin (1925) 1930s The Wizard of Oz (1939) 1940s Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) 1950s High Noon (1952) 1960s Lawrence of Arabia (1962) 1970s The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) 1980s Hotaru no Haka (1988) 1990s Rolling Stones: Live at the Max (1994) 2000s The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) 2010s *
If the question was what were 'best movies' then my picks would be different but 'favorite' is what it is...
If you don't want to include concert films substitute Interview With the Vampire (1994) for the 90's. If you don't consider LotR a single film then substitute Watchmen from last year for the 2000's. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

| Posted: | | | | Although I've not seen anything from the current decade, I must say I'm looking forward to Iron Man 2 and Tron Legacy. Hopefully by then I've filled that void in my list in the 1940s. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | Time to update my selection, now that I have something for 1940s (doesn't mean it won't be easily toppled):
1870s * 1880s * 1890s * 1900s * 1910s * 1920s Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1920) 1930s King Kong (1933) 1940s Pinocchio (1940) 1950s Quo Vadis (1951) 1960s H.G. Wells' The Time Machine (1960) 1970s A Clockwork Orange (1971) 1980s The Dark Crystal (1982) 1990s The Fifth Element (1997) 2000s A Scanner Darkly (2006) 2010s (Still) not seen anything yet

The funny thing is I'm on a bit of a silent-era bender at the moment, but Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is going to be a hard one to topple (Top 3 favourite of all-time). | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

(to appear fully restored and in glorious Blu-ray by the end of this year) Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde has a pretty firm grip on the position in my list. When I last watched Metropolis, I did enjoy it, but it didn't find its way into my collection. This new edition certainly has my attention though. So deej, are we going to see a list from you? ...and is Metropolis going to fill the 1920s slot? | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | Maybe in 10 days time or so. Preparing to go on holidays in Ireland in 2 days time, but unsure if I can go due to renewed volcano ashes from Iceland drifting down to Ireland. Irish airports are closed now, to re-open in a couple of hours, but there's also talk of closing again later on. So it's fingers crossed for me right now. It's a fairly safe bet Metropolis will be my 1920s entry. |
