SpaceCamp (0-13131-14069-9) I remember buying that DVD brand new (with the top security seal intact and all) and the disc would not even load in multiple players. The play surface of the disc was also an odd color. The same exact thing happened with The Stepford Wives from Anchor Bay, which was also released in 2001. | | | Corey |

What have others found?

the idea of this post ( thanks Lord of the Sith ) is to report the title ,, you gave us no idea what it was you where successful in replacing ..... Apologies it was Season 1 of ER Purchased around 2002 I think. | | | Learning is not mandatory, but then neither is survival. |

| Posted: | | | | This is Sin City's Policy: Defective DVDs Many DVDs can be played on a computer, or in a DVD-R drive, but play of the movie is not generally guaranteed by the manufacturer, unless specifically noted on the product page at www.sin-city-video.com. To determine if a DVD is defective, we request you try to view the movie on a standard DVD player. Because of the rapidly changing technology in DVD production, recent-model DVD players (less than two years old) are most likely to successfully play the movie for you. It is our experience that at times DVDs reported as defective are actually simply incompatible with the viewer's DVD player. However, we will happily honor the defective product policy and exchange the DVD with a replacement. Before sending the replacement DVD, we will open and test the title for you, to ensure that it plays on a standard DVD player. |

I only tried to watch it in 2010, the movie played for about half, so I assume up until the layer change. I can't see anything wrong with the disc, but it just freezes. I purchased the Blu-Ray last year. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | I have had a few,
The entire Star Wars SE box set, worked when I bought them, and through several viewings. Wentto watch them a year or so ago, and they would just skip and lock up. Looking at the discs they all seem to have the look of a water stain under the clear layer of the disc.
Ghost in the Shell : Solid State Society - Never played quite right
Ghost in the Shell : Innocents - Always had an issue as well.
Re bought both on BluRay

| Posted: | | | | Came across another disc today which appears to have developed disc rot. The DreamWorks original DVD release for The Mexican (UPC: 6-6706878222-6) which appears to have been manufactured by Technicolor.
EDIT: Whew, I didn't need to replace the disc. I was looking at the tags in my DVD Profiler database and remembered at some point I had two copies (purchased a duplicate). The second copy is still good.
The good copy has a silver appearance where as the bad on has a gold appearance. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

| Posted: | | | | Anchor Bay had a series of discs in about 2001 that had bad lacquer applied to them; I'm thinking that Crest National was the culprit. Among those titles:
Frankenstein Created Woman Heathers The Witches and probably a couple more that I can't remember.
They pretty much all rotted within the first year if they were going to rot at all.
Anchor Bay had a replacement program for them for a while, but they no longer have the rights to the Hammer titles so you're out of luck there. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | The only DVD I have which "rotted" ( that I know of ) is Warner Brothers' Altered States (1980) [085391107620]. Here's hoping that Blu-rays last forever! |

Will not play in any BD device or PC drive. Bummer. It has been just sitting in my Sony Changer for years. No use or abuse. Just found a replacement on Amazon for $8. No sweat. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | thanks (for the update to this inactive post of 26 months).. there are many versions of this disc on the market., I checked mine with disc Id of 7A1B286290AAD245 [SUPERMAN_II_RICHARD_DONNER_CUT] from the steelcase boxset and it opens fine..
Disc rot can occur under many situations and maybe sitting in a cd tray for long period time subjected to heat may have contributed to this ..
overall glad to see that if anyone does come across disc rot or dvds that don't play - to remember to update that info to this thread ......
My Lady In White Directors Ed. upc # 790594524029 stopped working and it was kept in fairly ideal environment., wanted to contact Elite Entertainment to get a replacement but I believe they have gone out of business as there was no contact information at all on the Net .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Got my replacement today and it works, even though I initially got "invalid disc" from the Sony. After contacting Gracenote, the metadata downloaded, and the disc plays fine. If for some reason, anybody wants the extra jacket and old disc that may or may not play for you, just PM me ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here.
