I don't know if this has already been suggested somewhere? Anyways, in addition to the negative feedback button for each post I'd REALLY like to have a similar button referring to the whole thread (e.g. named "Report to Moderators" or "Request Thread Lock" or whatever) accompanied by a text box where you can describe the reason for your request.

That way one could report those totally needless, derailing/ping-ponging threads to the moderators where voting down single (or even a couple of) posts would be unfair/unwarranted. Several current threads in the Contribution Discussion forum come to mind, I guess it's superfluous to link them here...

And sorry for the (late-night) screaming, but...  I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS KINDERGARTEN CRAP !!1

That said, who's up for a beer?!

It's an interesting idea. But if they're as responsive to this as they are to the red arrows, I don't see it having much of an effect.

I do like the beer idea though

Agree with the bloke on all counts. I'm drinking coffee with some liquor. Does that count?

Great idea, Muckl.

What part of my post made you think I attacked one specific user? If anything, the opposite is true. I posted this request to be able to vote down a whole thread and move on instead of reporting one particular post.

That's an entirely different topic.

And I decided to go with wine, eventually...

The important thing is the alcohol.

I've got nothing against pointless threads being locked, but I give the moderators enough credit to know when that needs to be done.

If I don't agree with their decision, I'm old enough to know what threads I need to stay out of.

Can't believe you bastards are taking the top thread spot away from my new forums discussion...

The nerve of you people...

(I have no official stance on this subject one way or the other... on one hand I feel the moderators will eventually step in to close a thread and a button isn't need because I can laugh at people fighting [myself included sometimes] and it's possible a thread can actually go back on topic, on the other hand, it'd be nice to see some of the cowpie closed sooner than it sometimes does)
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

You see, THAT'S the kind of threads I wanted to report to the authorities... baseless accusations and going off-topic.
